Baking Basics 

As we start a new year, let’s brush up on basic baking skills!  The Home Baking Association provides resources to make sure every baker is prepared.  Be sure to check out the baking GLOSSARY. This month we have also included opportunities to share your baking creations with the National Festival Breads contest!  Enter a baking lesson or activity in the Home Baking Association’s Educator Award Contest. There’s more to help you bake as we launch baking into 2023!

Mise en Place for Baking

“Mise en place” is a French phrase that translates to mean “everything in place” or “putting in place.” It is a general concept for how everything operates in the kitchen.  Baker Bettie offers extensive information with videos that will help prepare you for baking in her Baking Fundamentals course.

National Festival of Breads

The National Festival of Breads is now accepting entries for their 2023 competition. Entries are accepted until February 13th, 2023, so hurry and dream up your award-winning recipe!

The Home Baking Association is working with FCCLA to host the 2023 Baking & Milling Industry Immersion from April 19-22, 2023. FCCLA Members and Advisers will gather together and journey from Kansas City, MO, to Manhattan, KS, exploring the baking and milling industries on their way!
