It’s Bake and Take Month!
What better way to show someone you care than giving a home-baked gift? Select the recipe …. bake ….wrap and take to a neighbor, teacher or community care facility. Delivering the gift and visiting with the recipient provides an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life. Remember to submit baking activities or lessons to the Home Baking Association by March 31 to be eligible for the $1,000 Baking Educator Award!

Do you teach baking in a classroom? Are you a volunteer for a community program? $1,000 will be awarded for a baking activity or lesson for the 2017 Home Baking Association Educator Award contest! Submit a baking lesson and/or baking activity by March 31 to be eligible to win $1,000 and a trip to the 2017 Home Baking Association Annual Meeting. All entrants will receive a baking resource.

Given that March is National Nutrition Month, Whole Grain Sampling Day March 29, 2017, is the perfect time to sample the nuttier, rich taste of whole grains, and to share recipes that showcase the unique baking characteristics of whole grains A to Z.
Help us meet our goal! Get as many people as possible to give whole grains a try. You can channel Green Eggs and Ham, but there are lots of places to give them a try! You can try them
- On the bus and in a car on the way to school and work. Gnosh a great homebaked item
- In the classroom. Surprise everyone with a “locally made” whole grain Carrot Cake Cupcake from the HBA Smart Snack Collection!
- With your personal trainer, coach or gym mates.
- At home, by making whole grain recipes like Whole Grain Blueberry Muffins

Whole Grain
Whole grain Using whole kernel or ground whole kernels of a grain (barley, corn, oats, wheat, soy, rye) in a food at 51% or more of the flour weight. There must be more flour than sugar and fat for the food to be a“grain food” product. 16 grams of whole grain flour or meal per serving is 1/3 of the daily need for whole grain in a diet.
