June DEC meeting
The Pinellas County Democratic Executive Committee's
monthly meeting will be held on
Monday, June 28, 2021 at 7:00pm
Our general meeting speaker this month will be Sean Shaw.

Sean is launching an initiative to add three constitutional amendments to the ballot in 2022. His organization, People Over Profits, is devoted to protecting voting rights in Florida. The three amendments include:
  • Automatically register any Floridian who’s renewing or updating their driver’s license. Voters would have to opt out of registering to vote instead of opting in.
  • Allow Floridians to register to vote at polling places on Election Day or during early voting.
  • Undo a provision passed by the Republican-led Florida Legislature in 2019 that required ex-felons hoping to register to vote to first pay off outstanding court fines, fees and restitution.
We hope you'll join us for this important meeting and join the effort to get these amendments on the ballot!

Any Pinellas Democrat can watch the meeting via Youtube at:
Voting members should receive your Zoom link a week or so before the meeting. If any voting DEC member has not received the link by Sunday, June 27, please email our Zoom team to get set up.

Notes from the Chair

Juneteenth marks a day of major significance in African American History and to all who believe in a free society. June 19 is an annual holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States; it has been celebrated by African-Americans since the late 1800s. Juneteenth also represents all of the ways that freedom for Black people has been delayed. It is a reminder for all of us that nobody is free until all of us are free.
Juneteenth celebrates the day that all Americans were liberated, but it also provides an opportunity for us to reflect, to learn, and to grow as a nation.

I challenge Pinellas Democrats especially to take time on Juneteenth to reflect on our Party's values and consider how, as individuals, each of us can build on the Party's commitment to "promote racial justice through fair, just, and equitable governing of all public-serving institutions and in the formation of public policy: and "push for a societal transformation to make it clear that black lives matter and that there is no place for racism in our country.”

- Lucinda Johnson
Congratulations to three Pinellas Democrats who have taken on important Party leadership roles at the State level:  Trevor Mallory, the newly elected president of the Democratic Black Caucus of Florida; George Thurlow the newly elected president of the Florida Young Democrats; and Pat Holmes, newly elected to the board of the Democratic Senior Caucus of Florida. We look forward to hear good things from these three outstanding leaders!
