September 2019

A Note From Our Chair...

Hello Pinellas Democrats!

September is in full swing and the Pinellas Democrats are continuing our outreach efforts throughout the county! In August we made a total of 6,730 attempts and had 1,007 successful contacts with voters in Pinellas. I'd like to give credit to the District Chairs, and to all the amazing precinct committee people who are showing up and taking our outreach to a whole new level!

Speaking of taking things to another level, we're excited to announce our next FUNdraiser, the Big Tent Event, on Saturday, November 9th. We'll be celebrating the 2019 St. Pete City Council results as well as kicking-off our 2020 elections efforts. You won't want to miss the Inaugural Blue Wave Bake Off Contest, the delicious BBQ and the chance to mingle with all your local Dem friends and electeds! Early bird tickets are only $35 for adults, and $10 for kids. You can find out all about it here: http://bit.ly/BigTentEvent, and can purchase tickets here: http://bit.ly/BigTentTix

I'd also like to take a moment to bring your attention to our charity of the month, the Center for Disaster Philanthropy and their 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season Recovery Fund. If you are able to make a contribution we send you our sincerest thanks. Every donation makes a difference!

Lastly, I'm very excited for our guest speakers this month. First we will hear from the youngest activist I've ever met, Miles Fetherston-Resch, aka the 7 year old environmentalist CEO and founder of Kids Saving Oceans. If you haven't heard him speak yet, you will be throughly impressed! Second up, we will have Otto Cuevas from Unimex, who will be speaking to us about National Hispanic Heritage Month. I hope you all will join us.

As always, thanks for all you do and In It to Win It with you!

After the devastation of Dorian, and with hurricane season hitting it's peak, we would like to suggest that our monthly donations go directly to the Center for Disaster Recovery, specifically to their 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season Recovery Fund. They are a very worthwhile organization that helps in disaster relief all over the world.

"The CDP 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season Recovery Fund allows donors to give now to support recovery needs that will continue to surface long after our attention has turned away from these major meteorological events....Through CDP’s unparalleled expertise in disaster management and grantmaking, we will invest in projects and initiatives that:

  • Support vulnerable populations whose lives and livelihoods have been devastated.
  • Emphasize funding that is medium- and long-term in nature, based upon prevailing needs that emerge in the weeks and months after the disaster.
  • Fill in gaps where public resources are unavailable or scarce.
  • Foster collaborative relationships among grantees and other organizations."
