WANT TO BE AN ELECTED PRECINCT COMMITTEE WOMAN/MAN OR RUN FOR REELECTION? HERE IS HOW.
By state law, Florida political parties must reorganize following each presidential election. This means that all our Pinellas Democratic Party leadership positions are up for election -- starting at the precinct level and going all the way up to the Chair of the Pinellas Democratic Party.
Precinct committeemen and committeewomen are the foundation of the Democratic Party. They represent our Party in their general neighborhood -- at the grassroots level. They help voters who our candidates are and what values they represent; they serve as the voice for their precinct’s Democratic voters at our Party’s monthly meetings; and they help make sure our Democratic voters are able to vote at election time. Only the precinct committeemen and committeewomen elected in August will be able to vote for (and run for) the Pinellas Democratic Party leadership positions to be elected in December.
To become a precinct committeeman or committeewoman, an individual must file as a candidate with the Supervisor of Elections (SOE) by noon on June 12, 2020.
Information about running for a precinct committeeman or committeewoman position is posted on the SOE website at this link. The application form can be completed and printed using this link: (“Candidate Oath - Committeemen and Committeewomen”). Completed forms must be notarized and filed with the SOE between noon on June 8 and noon on June 12. The SOE will begin accepting forms for pre-qualifying on May 26 (no earlier).
The Pinellas Democratic Party can also assist anyone interested in applying for a precinct committee position. Please contact us via email at firstname.lastname@example.org not later than June 1, so we can answer any questions you might have about this process, and help ensure your application is completed correctly, notarized properly, and is filed with the SOE before the filing deadline.
