LTR & Ontarios

July is a very busy month for regattas. Below are stories, photos, and results from LTR and the Ontario Masters Championships. More stories to come!

Learn to Row
The LTR regatta on July 6th marked the end of a highly successful Learn to Row program. What a way to be introduced to the sport we all love with 6am lessons! This year there were 6 different groups, all rowing in fours. The volunteer coaches were wonderful and supportive of all our crews. A big thank you to them!

All crews had to overcome obstacles such as sleep deprivation(!) and weather conditions but they were driven to do their very best. The hard work paid off at the end of the program with the fun Learn to Row regatta.

Crews were in full spirits at the regatta. They dressed up, designed their own shirts, chanted, and came up with their own team names. The day was superbly organized by Nicole Bellefleur with the help of members from the recreational program of the GRC. All crews raced hard, but in the end the “Dawn Breakers”, coached by Julie Horrocks and Jo-Anne Costello, took home gold!

There is no question that all crews had a competitive spirit, but they did it with smiles on their faces and most importantly they all had fun. Once racing was finished participants and volunteers enjoyed a BBQ. This allowed everyone to socialize and get to meet new members of the GRC. The next steps for the LTR athletes include joining the Novice program for the rest of the summer and hopefully they will continue next year through the recreational program.
