What is your focus for 2019?

“If you don’t have a reason to get up in the morning, you don’t live as long, you are not as happy, you don’t heal as quickly. So, “purpose” is that reason at different stages of our lives for why we get up in the morning.” Richard Leider

During 2018, I was often confronted with life and the meaning of life. I again discovered that at the end of our lives we all want a “thank you”. We want to feel that we have made a dent, some contribution to something that matters. We want to make a difference by leaving our own thumbprint on others, our families, those we lead at work, in our community and most certainly also our faith-based communities.
Sadly, the pace of our modern world hardly affords us with any opportunity to rethink our priorities and to intentionally focus on things that really matter.

In 2018 we have launched an exciting new programme called Footprints. In essence it is a leadership conversation about what we intentionally would like to be remembered for. The legacy we leave behind. These two half day sessions allow the participants the opportunity to assess their life journey and discover “purposeful” outcomes. To have the biggest impact we recommend you schedule these profound conversations 4 – 6 months apart to support the delegates to relook and realign their life’s priorities.

We are a licenced provider of the Crucial mentoring Conversations (CMC) programme and we have successfully grown the CMC mentoring footprint into Australia and West Africa during 2018. During October and November PDD Innovation has had the privilege of rolling out our Crucial Mentoring Conversations programme for AngloGold Ashanti in Australia, Ghana, Mali and Guinea.

Innovation has also assisted with Mentoring initiatives at Wesbank, Santam and Unisa during 2018.

This resonated with us at Peoples Dynamic Development as the Small Business Academy initiative contributes to the lives and businesses of small business owners in townships.
This initiative is about sharing knowledge and working closely with small business owners in an effort to develop business skills. PDD was approached to train the first group of entrepreneurs from Khayelitsha, Cape Town as well as the Alumni from the USB as mentors.

Crucial Mentoring Conversations

Mentoring has evolved to become a strategic business initiative and organisations are investing in formalised mentoring with the expectation to see a “return on relationship”. Structured mentoring requires both mentors and mentees to be more intentional and both parties should be encouraged to explore all avenues for development.

Mentors could play a significant role to encourage conversations where they get to know their mentees and learn from one another’s personal experiences.
A Crucial Mentoring Conversation is a discussion between a mentor and protégé that will assist both parties to break through to new levels of understanding and insight. Imagine how a mentor could eliminate oversight with hindsight, foresight and insight. It would allow the mentee to explore and learn from their mistakes, to anticipate the advantages and disadvantages of a decision before they make it and therefore to respond better in the moment. That is what you call wisdom!

Crucial Mentoring Conversations will generate new awareness and insights through various topics that will ultimately impact the mentees personal and professional development in a meaningful way.
The book is available at Exclusive Books, Knowledge Resources, from our office as well as online.
