Concert #5 – Sunday, February 28 – 2 pm

Join us as drummer, composer, educator, and band leader Mark Kelso brings us his “Mark Kelso Jazz Project” featuring tunes from the 2020 Juno nominated “Chronicles of Fezziwig” project. The band will include Mike Downes on bass, Michael Occhipinti on guitar, Gordon Sheard on piano and Kelly Jefferson on tenor saxophone.

Originally hailing from Belfast, Northern Ireland, Canadian drummer Mark Kelso has made Toronto, Ontario his home for quite some time. Not only is he a skilled musician who plays drums and percussion, but he is also a singer, producer and composer as well.  Mark has earned 4 Juno awards as a sideman and has also been nominated as a leader with his own 2 groups, the Jazz Exiles (2016) and the Chronicles of Fezziwig Project (2020).
Mark has been Artistic Director for the Jazz Room in Waterloo since 2016 and the head of the percussion department in the Humber College music program since 2005.

Thank you for tuning in and supporting live music!
In this extraordinary year, it is more important than ever that we all keep connected. The entire TDMJF Committee deeply appreciates your ongoing interest in live jazz in Markham. Our goal is to build a bridge to a better 2021.

The TD Markham Jazz Festival is a not-for-profit organization with a mandate to enrich cultural life in the region by bringing emerging and established jazz artists to Markham for all to enjoy. Established in 1998, the festival draws more than 25,000 residents and visitors to the streets of Unionville during the third weekend in August. Local and international artists deliver over 30 open-air performances during the weekend as well as in selected “hot spots” and at a ticketed opening-night concert. During the year, the festival hosts “Hot Spot Concerts” at selected venues in Markham. TD Canada Trust became its title sponsor in 2014.
