TD Markham Jazz Festival Announces PIANO FEST!
If you love jazz and blues piano, with perhaps a bit of funk thrown in, then do not miss the TD Markham Jazz Festival - Piano Fest in historic Unionville on Friday and Saturday, August 17 and 18.
The piano has played a unique and integral part in jazz since the genre’s inception. As a result, we are presenting this new and special Piano Fest series, dedicated to celebrating the multifaceted role of the piano and its enduring contribution to jazz.
Piano Fest takes place inside Unionville’s Central United Church at 131 Main St. just south of the GO railway tracks. Dedicated to and paying tribute to jazz and blues piano, the new series mixes the best of the Toronto jazz scene professional piano pros who will be introduced by young protégés, playing Friday evening from 6:30 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. Modest ticket prices ($25 for Friday evening/Saturday and $20 for Saturday, with in-and-out privileges), makes it possible to present the new event. Individual concert tickets are also available at $10 each.
“We are so excited to bring this idea to life,” explains Artistic Director Sarah Kim Turnbull. “The Central United Church is an excellent performance space with beautiful acoustics, and it allows us to overcome the one limitation of traditional outdoors stages, namely that you can’t place a baby grand piano on them. Even better, Steinway Piano Gallery Toronto is graciously lending us a piano!”
