A Jazzy Holiday Wish – and 4 Save-the-date Reminders

Greetings, Jazz Lovers!
First, a huge thank-you for your continued support of this wonderful event. We couldn’t succeed without you!
In 2017, you helped us celebrate our 20th Markham Jazz Festival in grand style. Our programming expanded to include a special concert Thursday evening with headliner Shakura S’Aida. We moved our Opening Night Concert at the Varley Art Gallery to Wednesday evening – a change we plan to keep in 2018. That night, Barbra Lica sang to a sold-out crowd. Canadian jazz legend Manteca and dynamo Lorraine Klaasen fired up the Millennium Bandstand stage Friday night, and superstar David Clayton-Thomas drew a huge audience Saturday night. From alumni Ranee Lee and Carol Welsman to Larnell Lewis and Busty and the Bass, so many bright lights shone. Kudos to Artistic Director Sarah Kim Turnbull for an exceptional line-up.
Music and more in 2018
Looking ahead, please grab your calendars and mark the following 2018 dates.
  • Sunday, January 14 – Our Annual General Meeting takes place in the Markham Civic Centre’s Canada Room starting at 2 p.m. Come and observe or even join our fantastic organizing committee. We welcome your creativity and enthusiasm.
  • Sunday, February 25 – Hear jazz violinist and multi-instrumentalist Drew Jurecka perform at our first Markham Hot Spot Concert of the season. He was a sensation at this year’s MJF. The music starts at 2 p.m. at the Duchess of Markham Pub.   More information to follow.  Ticket sales will begin January 25th.
  • Wednesday, August 15 – Our 2018 Opening Night Concert kicks off each year’s festival at the Varley Art Gallery. Stay tuned for updates on the featured artist.
  • Friday – Sunday, August 17 –19 – The 2018 Markham Jazz Festival unfolds up and down Unionville’s beautiful Main St. Who can live without live music? Not us!
Meanwhile, from our Markham Jazz Festival family to yours, enjoy a safe and very festive holiday. See you in 2018!
