The NSW and Federal Governments have made further announcements following the release of our NSW COVID-19 Support Measures update this morning. With the news that Greater Sydney's lockdown will be extending for another four weeks to August 28, changes have been announced for JobSaver and the COVID-19 Disaster Payments.

We note that the Service NSW website is yet to be updated and these announcements have been drawn from the respective Media Releases.

The JobSaver expansion was announced today by NSW Treasurer, Dominic Perrottet. This will see the turnover eligibility ceiling increase from $50 million to $250 million, along with an increase of maximum weekly payments from $10,000 to $100,000

It has been confirmed that the increase in turnover eligibility and payment thresholds will be back-dated to the start of the program.

COVID-19 Disaster Payments

Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced increased financial support for New South Wales with the expansion of the COVID-19 Disaster Payment.

Eligible workers will receive:
  • $750 per week if they lose 20 hours or more of work
  • $450 per week where they have lost less than 20 hours
People already receiving welfare benefits will also be able to claim an additional $200 a week if they have lost more than eight hours of work, on top of existing benefits.

The increased payments will be made from the start of next week, commencing 2 August 2021.

These new payment levels will also apply from the start of any future lockdowns.
