TOP Newsletter | January 2015

TOP enters this beautiful new year with plans and evolving partnerships to expand our impact. 2014 was marked by numerous offsetting triumphs and TOP was also honored by recognition and awards for our work. Read on for more details about our recent work and opportunities for you to get involved with TOP in 2015...

Monterey Bay Carbon Fund

Monterey Bay Carbon Fund has several projects in the pipeline. The Fund is:
  • Using local offset donations to install our second electric vehicle charging station in the City of Monterey. This was a partnership between TOP, MC Gives!, the Electric Vehicle Alliance and the Electric Auto Association.
  • Offsetting the annual carbon emissions from the California Roots Festival by installing an electric vehicle charging station at the event's venue.
  • Subsidizing the cost of an 80 kWh solar system in Salinas, with funds going to support local job training.

CRRA Award for Our Work at Pebble Beach

TOP received the Outstanding Practices in Venue/Event Resource Recovery award at the 2014 California Resource Recovery Association Conference on behalf of the 2014 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and Pebble Beach Company.

TOP's work with the Pro-Am also achieved gold certification from the Council for Responsible Sport.

TOP Goes to Houston

One of TOP's most exciting projects in 2015 will be to increase waste diversion at another major professional golf event, the Shell Houston Open. This partnership will also
encourage compliance at the Open with the criteria for certification by the Council for Responsible Sport.

Big Sur Half Marathon

Our green team's work with the Big Sur Half Marathon received our highest diversion rate to date at 99.99%. Other than ONE 30 pound bag of trash, ALL waste was either recycled, upcycled or composted.

Thank You for Your Support

We wish to extend a profound thank you for support from our partners who help fund our waste reduction outreach in Salinas Valley. These partners include CalRecycle, Monterey County Environmental Health Department, Monterey Peninsula Foundation, and the Community Foundation for Monterey County.

Thank you, as well, to all our volunteers and supporters in the Monterey Bay Area and beyond. Your help is immeasurable and vital to our success.
