Dear Supporters,

You may have heard the good news already - the recently announced Free Trade Agreement with Japan does not include the right for foreign investors to sue our government (ISDS)! Thanks to all of you who sent  messages to the Trade Minister as part of our campaign.

AFTINET's convener, Dr Patricia Ranald, has written a piece for The Drum which explains why this is so important, and outlines our concerns about the secrecy of the agreement.

Meanwhile, we are continuing our campaign around the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), and against ISDS provisions in all trade agreements. See a list of upcoming events below.

Submissions to the Bill to ban ISDS in Australia close on Friday

Submissions to the Trade and Foreign Investment (Protecting the Public Interest) Act 2014 close on the 11th of April (this Friday). This bill aims to protect Australian laws by banning ISDS provisions in all future trade agreements. We are encouraging all our supporters to make a submission. For more information see our summary of points in support of the Bill. Please note that since this summary was published UNCTAD has released their latest report on ISDS, which you can find here.
