Once around the World with 96Boards

Introduction

Linaro Connect - #BUD17

Twice a year, the entire Linaro crew packs up and heads out to some relatively central location around the world. This event has been dubbed "Linaro Connect" and has been an ongoing Linaro tradition for years now! It attracts a wide variety of people from all walks of tech life. Developers and enthusiasts gather to share hacker rooms while everyone partakes in bleeding edge technical sessions and keynotes. Traditionally, attendees and live streamers can expect Linaro and 96Boards announcements throughout the entire event!

Embedded Linux Conference (ELC)

Linaro and 96Boards took up shop at ELC last week! For those who are not familiar with ELC, I would suggest visiting their website to read more. Not only did we have a booth to showcase our 96Boards ecosystem of boards, we also had several session speakers throughout the event:

We hope you will enjoy the session videos, and look forward to participating again in the years to come! #lfelc

Chihuahua, Mexico hacks 96Boards

96Boards and Qualcomm teamed up with Professors at Tecnologico de Monterrey in Chihuahua, Mexico to sponsor the first ever Smart Cities hackathon around the DragonBoard 410c. Paired with a series of workshops, the students ultimately ended up with 50 hours worth of hack time!

The long week of training and hacking payed off for everyone (especially the 5 winning teams). There were 19 teams with 7 student, each team ranging from freshman to senior levels of undergraduate study in the Mechatronics(technology combining electronics and mechanical engineering.) career program.

Each team was asked to provide an elevator pitch video submission, the recreation of their project on "Instructables" and a final presentation in front of the judges. Most of these videos can be found on the 96Boards YouTube "Mexico Hackathon" playlist - Please subscribe to the channel!

Winning Teams:

1) PassMe (Instructables / Tweet /  Submission / Presentation)
2) Smart Boiler (Instructables / Tweet /  Submission / Presentation)
3) ComuniCibo (Instructables / Tweet /  Submission / Presentation)

This Week (March 2, 2017)

This week we closed out our Ubuntu Core series with Part 3 of this awesome trilogy around Ubuntu Core! Our featured guest will be Kyle Fazzari from Canonical who specializes in the art of snapcraft (among many other things). This episode will be especially exciting as we look at ROS (robot operating system) and dissect it as a snap for Ubuntu Core on the DragonBoard 410c. With greater understanding of what exactly ROS is, Kyle will then demo a snap made for controlling the well known Turtle Bot live on the show. Several other developers from Canonical will also be joining us, so bring your Ubuntu questions!

Last Week (March 9, 2017)

Last week we spoke with Ogra from Canonical and many of his colleagues about Ubuntu Core, Snapcraft, 96Boards and the Mexico Hackathon. The show consisted of several demos using the DragonBoard 410c and Ubuntu Core as well as what seem liked an endless stream of social media and support announcements...
