Did you know?

All 48 colors in our Grumbacher Academy Acrylic line have a lighfast rating of 1, or excellent? Well, they do! (Yes! The reds too!)

Our paints are manufactured in the USA, in Tennessee as a matter of fact; and we tube them right here in Leeds, Massachusetts!

It's June; time to get ready for summer fun and lots of classes!

Access Instructor Resources via thalo.com

All instructors should be accessing our program materials via thalo.com. We made this change several months ago and we hope that everyone is fully on board at this time! : )

If you're having trouble accessing our program materials please watch this video or click on this link for help!

Free Classes Information

Just a reminder that all instructors should be using the color wheel/simple landscape combo lesson plan for each and every free acrylic painting class.

All instructors should be using the perspective drawing lesson plan for each and every free drawing class.

No other lesson plans are to be used; no deviations, no exceptions!

Acrylic Free Classes
  • Participants should be purchasing one Grumbacher Bristlette Filbert #8 brush and a pack of Artists Loft canvas panels before the class.
  • Our instructors provide instruction of the approved lesson plan, and the minimal amount of paint needed to complete the color wheel (and simple landscape if time allows). This should require no more than a tablespoon sized dollop of each of the 4 colors of paint (Cadmium Red Light, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Ultramarine Blue, and Titanium White) for most participants, but paint use will vary.
  • Michaels classrooms should be stocked with paper (or foam) plates, paper towels, and plastic cups for water.

Drawing Free Classes

  • Participants should come prepared with two 2-packs of Koh-I-Noor pencils (6B and HB), an Artists Loft kneaded eraser, and a Strathmore 400-4 9x12 drawing pad.
  • Instructor provides instruction of approved lesson plan.
  • Store provides classroom.

Please reach out to instructors@michaels.com with any questions or concerns regarding these free classes.

The success of our program depends on our instructors using and promoting our brands in our sponsored program!

Does your store have enough acrylic student kits and Gioconda drawing sets? If not, please let your store manager and your Grumbacher Education Coordinator know!

New Lesson Plans!

Due to the overwhelming response to questions posed in our Grumbacher Instructor group on thalo, we have put up our first intermediate portrait lesson plan! We hope that you and your students enjoy it! :)

Please remember that you can customize these lesson plans; for example, the American flag can be replaced with the Canadian flag, or you can create a plain blue or red background for the eagle! Make the lesson plan work for you, your region, the season, and for your students!
