Jamie Lloyd directs an outstanding revival of Evita, transferring to the Barbican in 2020 for a limited run of just 8 weeks.

From a life of poverty to the First Lady of Argentina, Eva Peron was hailed as the spiritual leader of the nation. Seen as the champion of the poor, her ambition, glamour and power made her the world’s first major political celebrity, winning the adoration of the people.
At the beginning of the show, audiences meet Eva Duarte, a poor Argentinian girl living in a small town who dreams big. Eventually rising from her lower status in society, Eva becomes close to Colonel Perón and the two fall in love. Married to President Juan Perón, she was a well-loved figurehead, considered an icon in her home country. Charting her life until she passed away at the tender age of 33, Evita tells of Eva Perón’s life in the spotlight in musical fashion.
With iconic songs, memorable characters and an inspirational story, Evita has stood the test of time since it was first staged in 1978, winning Olivier Awards for best new musical and Elaine Paige an Olivier for best actress.

With a chart-topping score including Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, Oh What A Circus, And The Money Kept Rollin’ In, Another Suitcase in Another Hall, and the Oscar-winning You Must Love Me, Jamie Lloyd directs Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's iconic musical.
