To Our Havurah Community,

The shock, horror and dismay of the recent killing rampage that targeted Asian American women in Atlanta, GA is still reverberating across our country. While we may never know the full motivation of this man to pick up a gun and slay innocent people, the fact that the targets were women of Asian descent hits a raw and painful place in this moment of time. The former president of the US spread hateful rhetoric about Asians, linking people's fears and anger about the pandemic to China and effectively putting a target on the backs of these fellow Americans.

As Jews, we are well familiar with being scapegoated for the various ills of society, and as such we must stand strongly in solidarity with Asian Americans now. Violence towards Asian Americans has skyrocketed since the pandemic struck with Asian women being targeted the most.

Hateful rhetoric which leads to violence against human beings has no place in our country. The Havurah stands arm in arm with our Asian friends and neighbors to say no to the violence and hate.

Please take a moment to sign this pledge of Jewish support that our friends at Bend The Arc Jewish Action have put together. And please, light a yartzheit candle for the lives that were needlessly lost in Atlanta.
