Foundation Recognized as Community Partner in Education
(L to R: D113 Board Member Alena Laube, Nancy Mills and Betsy Brint, HPCF Board Members)
Early this year, the Highland Park Community Foundation was recognized by District 113 (D113) as a Community Partner in Education.

"On behalf of the Highland Park Community Foundation, I'd like to thank both the [D113] Board of Education for giving us this honor and the [Highland Park] high school for their ongoing partnership," said Nancy Mills.  "We're so proud to be able to support these outstanding programs and truly appreciate this recognition."

The HPCF provides financial support to several meaningful programs geared primarily toward Latino and African American students. For HPHS students, the Foundation supports the Homework Club and the National Hispanic Institute Leadership Scholarship program. The Saturday Art Enrichment and the Sunday Soccer and Swim programs offer instruction to elementary and middle school students as well as education and support programs for their parents. Estudiante to Student is a mentoring program where high school leaders work with younger students to help prepare them for freshman year and develop their STEM skills.

By supporting these thoughtfully planned, high quality programs, the Foundation achieves its mission of meeting the unmet needs of the community. Furthermore, we are proud that each program serves a dual purpose of educating and developing skills while also making participants and their families feel comfortable in the high school and a part of the community here.

What's New?

We are pleased to introduce our newest members to the Board of Directors.

Karen Reisin - Her longtime commitment to community service ties right in to the Foundation's mission. Ms. Reisin was born and raised in Glencoe, graduated from New Trier High School, then proceeded to study Marketing from Indiana University. After the birth of their first child in 1994, Reisin and her husband moved to Highland Park where they have remained for the past 22 years.

Her desire to help those in need motivated her to volunteer in her children's schools and for several social organizations.

Joe Reinstein - Not many Highland Parkers can claim their parents, grandparents, great grandparents and great-great grandparents lived in Highland Park, but Joe Reinstein can. Joe is a fifth generation Highland Parker, so joining the Board of the Highland Park Community Foundation, an organization Joe’s father Alan Reinstein helped found, was a natural.
But Joe spent a bit of time in Washington DC before returning back to his hometown.
