Sunday Swim Builds Community

Sally Higginson of the Highland Park News recently wrote the attached article detailing the wonderful work done through Giant Splash. Along with Family Service, the Highland Park Community Foundation is a proud supporter of this program that not only teaches children to swim, but also provides an opportunity for their families to unite, learn together and develop friendships. 

Giant Splash is an offshoot of the Sunday Soccer program, a grant recipient of the Foundation since 2009. These programs, led by Tom Koulentas of Highland Park High School and Cindy Camacho of Family Service, have created a sense of community and a new comfort level with the high school for the many family that participate.  For the full story, click here.

What's Next?

Look for our announcement of the winner of the Highland Park Golden Apple award later this spring. This award, which recognizes an outstanding educator from our high school, middle schools or elementary schools, was initiated by the HP Community Foundation and a local family foundation in 2010. This year's winner will be a teacher from the high school.
