Bruce Goodman Becomes First Recipient of Jack Blane Community Service Award

Bruce Goodman, a lifelong resident of Highland Park, became the first recipient of the Jack Blane Community Service Award on December 6th, at the Highland Park Community Foundation’s annual Grants Awards Dinner.

“Bruce Goodman is an obvious and easy choice to be the first recipient of the Jack Blane Community Service award,” said Walter Nathan, Chairman of the Highland Park Community Foundation. “Bruce has demonstrated through time, effort, and generous donations, his commitment to improving the quality of life in our community.” Community service is in his blood. He learned from an early age the importance of getting involved when his mother started the Girl Scouts in Highland Park.  Following in her footsteps, Bruce continues to make giving a priority. Mr. Goodman is a long-time member of both the Highland Park Community Foundation and YEA! Highland Park Boards.

The Jack Blane Community Service Award was created to honor past HPCF Chairman Jack Blane for his outstanding service to our community, and to recognize individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to community service in Highland Park/Highwood. Jack is a Marine, a Rotarian, a successful businessman, a former HP City Councilman, and a long-time Board member and past Chairman of the HPCF.

HPCF Welcomes Kim Saccaro

Born in Chicagoland and raised in the Midwest, Kim and her family became residents of Highland Park in 2012.  While a relatively new resident in the community, her family has been engaged in the region for centuries as business and civic leaders –

her great grandfather founded Dean Foods in Chicago in the early 1900’s and her great, great uncle William Boyington served two consecutive terms as Mayor of Highland Park in the late 1800’s.  Kim is proud to be a part of our community’s philanthropic efforts and is looking forward to bringing her experience in the nonprofit sector to her role on the Board of Directors.

Kim is the founding Executive Director of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation Midwest Division, launched in early 2011.  She has nearly two decades of nonprofit management, fundraising and board development experience.  Kim is an alumna of The University of North Carolina and was awarded their Young Alumni Award in 2003.

Look for our announcement of the winner of the Highland Park Golden Apple award later this spring. This award, which recognizes an outstanding educator from our high school, middle schools or elementary schools, was initiated by the HP Community Foundation and a local family foundation in 2010.
