We celebrated the College’s fourth commencement on June 19-- the College’s largest--with 242 students graduating with associate degrees. The majority of students who participated in the ceremony were members of the 2015 cohort, with students from the 2014 and the 2013 cohorts continuing to complete their degrees. We are delighted to graduate more students, a strong indication that our innovative approach to community college education is successful.
For over two years, the College worked diligently to write its Comprehensive Self-Study Report as part of the application process for accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. We just learned the Commission has accredited the College. This is strong affirmation that our young institution is successfully meeting the needs of our students.
At Guttman we pride ourselves on being collaborative. This spring, faculty have engaged students by having them participate in a variety of research projects, including original scholarly research and conference presentations. The College also continues to be recognized for excellence by outside organizations, including Hobsons and Diverse Magazine for our commitment to student success and diversity, respectively.
We held our first Global Learning Summit this spring, an occasion that allowed our students who participated in the Global Guttman program to reflect on how the skills they developed as a result of their international travel can enhance their career opportunities. Our Global Guttman program resumes this summer as students embark on trips to Chile to study business, Ecuador to visit the rainforest, and Belize to examine ethical decisions related to environmental decision-making. These impactful trips tied to Guttman courses will provide participating students with an increased world perspective sought after by employers. We look forward to hearing their stories and sharing them with you in the coming months.
Best Wishes for an Enjoyable Summer,
