Dear Friends:
This spring’s continual rain has not dampened the College’s spirit as students and faculty work on terrific projects.
The excitement of international study was evident with the two recent Global Guttman trips: Alaska, where students explored contemporary youth culture from an interdisciplinary perspective; and Nicaragua, where students studied food sustainability issues. Getting students out of the classroom and into the field, whether in New York or Nicaragua, remains a hallmark of our model and contributes to our students’ great success.  We are fortunate to make this opportunity available to students using funds from the endowment provided by the Guttman Foundation’s gift to CUNY.
As a young college, we continue to enjoy a series of ‘firsts:’ our first Winter Bridge program was held in February when we welcomed 47 incoming students, who matriculated for the spring semester; our first combined students awards & recognition ceremony, where we recognized outstanding academic and leadership achievements; and our first academic symposium, Breaking Boundaries.
We are very proud that our students are being recognized by leading organizations for their academic talent and community service, and that one of our faculty members has been selected for a prestigious ACE fellowship.
As we now turn our attention to our third commencement on June 23, we are delighted that many students will soon complete their associate degrees and continue their studies at four-year colleges or embark on successful careers. This year, several students from our inaugural 2012 class will also be graduating from senior colleges to earn a bachelor’s degree in four years—an incredible accomplishment. We indeed have much to celebrate this spring.
