NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2015 | CEDA members and associates edition

AUGUST Newsletter

Dear <<First Name>>
Hello from Peta Godenzi, President
Email me: info@delorainehomestead.com.au or tel 0428 971 203.

It's been the coldest July for twenty years and that's been a very good thing for the Warburton Valley. Cosy meals by fireplaces and hands warming around steaming hot chocolates and locally roasted coffees certainly paint a picture that many associate with winter in the valley, and the plentiful snowfalls have really added to the winter traffic and experience. I am sure you have all benefited! It's great to see Parks Victoria, Vic Roads, Yarra Ranges Council and locals including our VIC staff and our good friend-on-the-mountain Terry  all working so closely together to ensure safety and egress on the mountain.  It's been a big learning curve and we can all be mindful that Mt Donna is not an established ski resort with the same infrastructure as other snow destinations. What we do have though is great promixty to Melbourne, fabulous villages to visit along the way and no-to-low cost participation in a range of easy access snow activities. There are lots of strategies being rolled in to make everyone's experience the best it can be. We've just been advised that over the next few weeks the shelters on the mountain will have some work done on them, including taking away some of the heavily graffitied walls and other improvements.

Warburton Valley CEDA would also like to offer a warm welcome to the new Chair of Yarra Ranges Tourism  Mr Mark Lucas, who has previously worked as the Manager of the RACV Healesville Country Club and General Manager of AAA Tourism. Our thanks also to Peter Russell who has previously held this role. Peter's legacy among many things is 'the creation of strong digital assets' according to fellow Director Glen Patterson, and we at CEDA are indeed grateful for the commitment and insights he has shown in this voluntary role.

We know many of our members have multiple interests in the valley. We'd like to focus more on talking to people directly about CEDA's work and achievements and what they mean for prosperity. As Annual General Meeting season approaches, we would like to offer the services of our committee members as possible guest speakers at your AGM events. If you think a CEDA talk might be of interest to your group please give me a call on 0428 971 203 to chat about options and needs.

Our Social Media presence this past month has grown by almost 200%. Our Visit Warburton Facebook page is growing steadily with cross promotions with Visit Yarra Valley and Parks Victoria bringing lots of people to our page. Similarly the  www.visitwarburton.com.au website is making excellent SEO progress up the Google results page. We will continue to provide regular updates on snow activity and reports from Parks Victoria throughout the winter season.
Help spread the word by linking to www.visitwarburton.com.au from your website and Facebook page.

Membership Renewals

We've had a flurry of membership renewals to meet our 31/7 deadline and want to say thanks for your  continued support.  There are still a few outstanding renewals so members of our committee will be taking a moment to call those who have lapsed to see if there is anything we can do to help, or to seek your feedback if you are not planning to renew. As a voluntary committee you will appreciate the demands our committee members face in balancing  business, life and CEDA interests so we do hope you will take the time to chat with us - we're committed to making CEDA highly effective and representational of your needs and your input is valued.
The last reminder follow up has been sent regarding your renewal, but you can always go to our PayPal link on the website here which will remain active. Over the next few weeks we will need to review key member benefits and lapsed members will find their exposure on  www.visitwarburton.com.au and in the Waterwheel will change.
Download our new CEDA  brochure here if you need to reacquaint yourself with our purpose.
New members are also welcome.

CEDA members only Facebook group now available
We are pleased to announce we have established a closed Facebook group for CEDA members as another simple way of sharing information in a timely and direct way.  The URL is https://www.facebook.com/groups/CEDAWarburtonvalley/ or click here. While our VISIT WARBURTON Facebook page has 'liked' the pages of all CEDA businesses, participation in the closed CEDA group needs to be from your personal profile. The simplest way to manage this is for you to go to the CEDA members page and 'request to join'. This page will only be accessed by CEDA members who have opted in and  will be topical to CEDA related news only - no spam, no promos. It give us an opportunity to let you know important information in between newsletters, but also gives you the option to post, like and ask questions, not only of the committee but of each other. We've already started posting and hope you join us ASAP!

Visit Warburton Promotions -  Poster attached
Please find attached a poster you can use to promote our website to your customers. We also now have a new sign installed at the noticeboard at the Brisbane Bridge site so keep an eye out for that when you next drive past. Download here.

CYCLING - VERTICAL K and GIRO DELLE DONNA

Vertical K have now launched their event - website here - with an email drop to more than 37,000 targets. Registrations are already rolling in and there is a great buzz about the event in the cycling and running communities. We have posted info on our Visitwarburton.com.au website and Visit Warburton Facebook page and will promote this heavily in the lead up to the event. There is an opportunity for CEDA members to become involved in promotional activities for this event, including loyalty cards, advertising, discount offers and so on - more info to come.
The other big event launch this month is the brand new event 'Giro delle Donne' expecting more than  2000 participants on Mt Donna on 22 November. With spectators, support groups and participants this is yet another big opportunity for the Warburton Valley to prove how wonderful it is at hosting eco and outdoor events.
We couldn't be happier with the professionalism and responses of event organisers, who value community and business engagement highly and want to showcase the beauty of our region. They also have significant marketing budgets and every time their event is mentioned nationally it's another exposure for Warburton Valley, which can only be a good thing!

Wine sales at the Waterwheel

Did you know we recently were successfully granted a Liquor Licence for the Waterwheel Centre, which opens the way for local Wine Sales! We already have several ranges in stock including Killara Estate, Wild Cattle Creek, Bulong Estate, Seville Hill and Payne's Rise, and we now welcome our newest vineyard 'The Old Cock & Swear Jar'.
Winemaker Matt is already a CEDA member as the co-owner of Warburton Whitehouse B&B, and also operates the Four Corners Wine Store. The Old Cock & Swear Jar's  first release is a Yarra Valley Shiraz 2014 and CEDA member Little Joe will offer it on their wine menu also! Welcome and good luck. Bottled wine is available for purchase during Waterwheel hours of operation - a great value add for tourists who come in for information and as a take-home souvenir!

Volunteers at the Waterwheel

The Waterwheel VIC is run entirely by volunteers and we truly appreciate the quality of service they give to people face to face EVERY DAY of the week between 10am and 4pm.  Visitors to the centre comment daily on how wonderful it is, in this digital age, to be able to speak to someone knowledgable directly, and it's a great way for visitors to truly experience the warm-hearted hospitality of the Warburton Valley.
We are always needing additional volunteers to join the team. If you think this might suit you please give us a call on 5966 9600 or drop in for a chat. We'd love to hear from you.
