Monthly newsletter -March
Dear <<First Name>>
A very hearty congratulations to the Warburton Advancement League (WAL) on the celebration of 60 years of service to the community of Warburton. WAL, a voluntary group of local people, have contributed an unmeasurable amount to the township and surrounds, much of which is behind the scenes. Over the years we have all benefited in some way from their work and we offer our gratitude for their commitment and vision.
This time of year is truly magnificent for our valley. The beginning of autumn and the turning of the leaves on the trees brings such beauty to our towns and there is a sense of general abundance.
Local restaurants and cafes have lots of local produce to highlight in their menus (I have had a chance to see the new menu being launched by the new Chef at Oscars On the Yarra and it’s very exciting!) and our local small wineries are preparing for harvest. (Don’t forget local wines can be purchased by the bottle from the Warburton Waterwheel seven days a week.)
There have been some terrific events over the past few months and plenty coming up through March and April, including of course the Easter and School holidays period so don’t forget to take these into account – we have our annual calendar of events if you want further information (click here) on any of these. I want to thank all the organisers, traders volunteers and local participants who contribute so much to the Warburton Valley with these showcase events. We always hear about how much people love coming to visit, or how they haven’t been for a while and look forward to returning. I am sure that events such as the Community Bank Up and Running and new event Everesting, for example, bring many people to the event day but are worth so much more when we think about the repeat tourism they bring when people return to our towns for additional visits.
One of the upcoming events I am looking forward to is the second annual Celebrating Warburton dinner, which will be held on the deck outside the Waterwheel on March 21. Please see the flyer below and come along to share a table with the community. It promises to be a delicious night where we can all get together and celebrate what we love about our valley. We will also celebrate 60 years of WAL!
Don’t forget our online Warburton CEDA members business directory, which we launched a couple of months ago. We encourage all our members to get to now one another, and hope that this is a helpful document for you to prioritise CEDA members in your purchasing or access of services.
Wishing you much prosperity!

Adventure tourism workshop gets go ahead
We are pleased to announce that with the support of Yarra Ranges Tourism and the Upper Yarra Community Enterprise funding has now been secured to offer a workshop aimed at defining potentials that the Warburton Valley has for outdoor recreation, events and tourism, and developing a strategy to address them.
The workshop will be provided by an adventure tourism marketing specialist and the workshop outline is currently being developed in conduction with local stakeholders. It is envisaged that attendees at this workshop will come from key organisations, event promoters and relevant local people. We will let you know shortly of the dates and key details. This is an excellent step towards a dedicated and cohesive adventure tourism plan (which includes clycing - in all its forms, walking, running a nd a range of new opportunities) that will bring benefits for everyone in the Warburton Valley.
A big February for big events
February kept its promise for being a month of great events. Community Bank UP and Running once again set a new record for participants up 150 on last year to 850 people. We hear some cafes on the main street of Warburton saw an increase of around 30% that day in trade so it was great to see that connection between the event and local businesses. SImon a participant wrote: 'It is a major credit to the Warburton community to be able to put on such a well-organised, professional and efficient running event. There was nothing that could have been better planned or delivered on the day.' The event will be scheduled again on the last Sunday of February next year.
The Everesting event was also a popular one that as an inaugural event has put Warburton on the map for cycling events. In fact Mt Donna is the birthplace of Everesting! The Social Media uptake of this story was outstanding and all goes towards an even bigger presence next year. Debriefs are now underway to consider what went well, where the opportunities are for improvement and general feedback about these events.
If you want to read more about the event go to the In Search of Up Facebook page.
- 25 total completed an Everesting on Donna Buang
- 20 women completed the challenge (average completion r=time was 20 hours riding!)
- 3 women took it all the way to 10,000 vertical metres

What can I do? Three by three things this month
- Gather 7 photos together that showcase your business, service or event. If you don't have quality pics, arrange to have some taken. These are some of your most vital promotional material.
- Check out the new www.visityarravalley.com.au website - now live
- Support a local event by attending something you may have not been to before. There's plenty on over the next month to choose from!
We have a dedicated page on the Upper Yarra Community Enterprise website http://upperyarra.net.au/ceda/ or click here.
'To promote sustainable economic development that enriches the lives of those who live in or have a close connection to the Warburton Valley and rely on its prosperity.'
