CEDA UPDATE AUGUST - Members and associates edition

Dear <<First Name>>

Did you realise CEDA is a not for profit organisation?  We are primarily an advocacy group – that is our official charter. We return all membership fees back to the local community and tourism industries through various ongoing and special interest projects.
Our key areas of investment are the Waterwheel precinct and Visitor Information Centre, the
www.visitwarburton website with its localised content, FB page and various tourism initiatives such as the Visitor  Maps.
All committee members are volunteers with their own local businesses to run.

We have limited resources (both financially and in actual man hours) and so the projects we have put our energy behind in the last two years have been the ones that have the potential to deliver the most benefit back to the community (hence our support and advocacy with the Mountain bike hub - $23 million benefit to community -  and our joint initiatives with Yarra Ranges Tourism on events such as Giro Della Donna).
We have made great progress but these are very large projects and it takes time for them to go through all the stages that are necessary. We are also not ‘in control’ of these processes and rely on many different government bodies, private organisations and other interest groups to work together to make things happen. Rest assured that we are a driving force.
So feedback that comes our way that questions ‘What does CEDA do?’ actually makes us realise that while we are focused on telling the world about and promoting the Warburton Valley, we haven’t been promoting ourselves enough.  So Peta and Michael will be taking to the streets over the next few months to visit with individual business owners to talk about the region and what needs to happen.
We can’t make Warburton Valley better without your help and support – through memberships and through striving to offer the best possible experience for your customers and clients.

We’ve made major progress with establishing ourselves as the ‘go to’ contact for the region and have the Federal, State and local governments seeking our input. We’ve focused on building stronger relationships with Yarra Ranges Tourism and Visit Victoria so that the great machines behind these tourism bodies give greater emphasis to the Warburton Valley (they are the fund holders after all), and we’ve endeavoured to build a stronger network within our community.

Community Economic Development is after all about building entire communities and ensuring the whole is bigger than the sum of the parts. A business might not benefit directly from a cyclist coming to town but the money that cyclist spends adds to the economic pot from which all people in our towns can benefit. That is our mission and that is the place we are having the greatest effectiveness.
We’re glad you’re part of it.

Kind regards,
Peta Godenzi

Our Warburton Valley Tourist information map is now available.  We've printed 50,000 and last week Mike Iley kindly delivered approx 10,000 into our key distribution points throughout the region. CEDA members with B&Bs, cafes etc  and other business may pop into the VIC and pick up quantities for thier own customer needs or call to arrange your delivery. Quantities have also been left at Yarra Valley Rental in Yarra Junction for your convenience (Thank you Sue!).
Thank you to all those businesses who supported this initiative with advertising. We think you'll agree the new look cover (which is now branded cohesively with the Yarra Ranges map) makes this a great asset for our region.

JOIN our Members only Facebook Group will soon feature online interactive maps for users!
We're blogging! Have you read our post about Warburton being the Soup
capital? Here it is. It got great like and share traffic. Got an idea for a blog topic. Send an email and we will research, write and post it! We can link it to your site and page. Please help by sharing our content to your networks especially via FB and newsletters.
The consullation process closed on July 29  for anyone wishing to submit comments or responses to the  Mountain Bike Hub proposal recently circulated from Cox Architecture.  Thanks to those who took the time to comment or attend an information session.

It is well worth Liking the CYCLING TIPS Facebook page and the event page for Giro Della Donna  to see just how much wonderful promotion our region is already getting in the lead up to this event! Here's a video from last year's event and an indication of the rising enthusiasm cyclists and their support teams have for Donna!
Traders Group - The Traders Group subcommittee is now meeting regularly on a Monday night (once per month). If you would like more information or to attend please connect with Valissa Enever at Warburton Pantry.

Ausnet Services - Bushfire prevention services are being conducted in the Warburton Valley area by Ausnet (commenced mid-July). Installation will take 2-3 months. We were briefed by Ausnet on the scope and necessity of these changes and are confident they will be managed with the best interests of the community in mind.  Work has now been underway for several weeks and the impact appears to be minimal and the majority of drop outs very short.

Living with Bushfire Community Conference - Save the date: 7-8 October at Lilydale Lakeside campus -  for more information or to participate see Registrations now open.

Tourism Network Yarra Valley (TNYV) will be offering  their 2016 Industry forum event on Wednesday 24 August (9.30 to 3pm in Narbethong at Saladin Lodge) on the topic of 'Creation of Connection'.  The 2016 TNYV Industry Forum is about equipping  operators with the inspiration, skills and confidence they need to continue to innovate, invest, create, grow and together, build a leading tourism industry in Victoria.
