Well Done all our Supporters

These photos give just a small impression of the huge range of furniture and equipment that you have donated for the Syrian families arriving in our area.  It is truly very moving to see how you have now turned three houses into three homes for three families fleeing war and destitution.

So thank you all very much.

And now for House No 4...

Our fourth family is arriving shortly.  Thanks to your amazing generosity the British Red Cross have enough kitchen equipment, toys, soft furnishing, bed linen and the like for House No 4.  But there is still a need for some furniture so if you can help, please do.  This is the list that Theresa has sent to us, so if you can offer to donate any items or offer to fund the purchase of new or second hand items please to let us know.
  • Large dining table –possibly a few more chairs
  • 2 sets of drawers
  • 2 bedside tables
  • 2 single bed frames (fire labels attached if fabric box springs)
  • 3 single mattresses (fire labels attached)
  • Three seater sofa (fire labels attached)
  • 2 large area rugs (for hardwood living and dining room floors )

The plan is to deliver the furniture to the new house over the weekend of February 25th/26th.  If you are able to help please contact Penny at or

Please don't post this appeal on other websites or social media such as Facebook.  This has happened previously and it led to too many donations being offered that we were not able to use,
Communi-Tea Drop-In

Please do come to the Communi-Tea Drop-In at St Ethelwold's which Host Abingdon is putting on together with MoreinCommon.

This initiative is to meet with other people who share the ambition of encouraging Abingdon as a welcoming town of sanctuary for whoever comes here, and wherever they come from.

We don't know who will come but you might meet some lovely people.  The first Communi-Tea Drop-In is this Saturday. Do Come if you Can.
Being a Host
If you have a spare room and are interested in either being a host to a refugee, asylum seeker or vulnerable migrant, or at least finding out what is involved, there is a chance to go on a training day with Sanctuary Hosting (formerly Host Oxford).  Or you may like to consider befriending guests as a guest support worker. If you are interested please do email to book a place.

One Year On

Please do come to our next Supporters Group meeting which will be held on Wednesday 15th March, 7.30 p.m at St Ethelwold's House.  We will be marking our first birthday with a review of the year.

So please do come along, meet some fellow supporters and hear about progress on all our projects.

Everyone is welcome.
