The Next Step Newsletter - December 2016

A powerful T-square for us all

As most of you know, as subscriber numbers have grown, I am now paying a high annual fee to distribute this newsletter, so I will start to make a small charge for this in 2017. I was originally planning to do this around the turn of the year, but as this is such a busy and expensive time, with many people travelling, I will leave it until February. Therefore after the February newsletter is sent out at the end of January, during February if you wish to continue to receive the newsletter you will have to re-register via my website, as the newsletter will be sent from a different source which takes account of the subscription charge, which will be about £12/$15 per year. I hope you feel that this is reasonable for the quantity and quality of information offered here, particularly as I also send out a high level of information freely via video updates and social media posts regularly through the month. Thank you for your constant support and wonderful comments; of course I wouldn’t be doing this without you!

Here are some highlights for manifestations of planetary patterns in November: I post these as it is insightful and educational for us to see how astrology is constantly manifesting in the world in many different ways, weaving a tapestry with its constantly changing symbolism over time. Ultimately, I hope this will serve as a historical record.

November 2016

November 2nd: Two police officers were shot in the early hours, in an unprovoked incident, in Iowa, US: This reflects the symbolism of Mars/Pluto midpoint square to Uranus: sudden, eruptive, disruptive, violent, out of the blue shocking incidents.

November 2nd: Corruption appears at the top level of the South African government: This reflects the square between Saturn in Sagittarius (truth) versus Neptune in Pisces (deception, fraud, things not being as they seem).

November 2nd: This isn’t specific to one day, but the protests against the Dakota pipeline continue. I can’t give a link here, as I can’t find any coverage on mainstream media of this huge protest, which speaks volumes itself, only on social media. It is a very big, clear, and tragic example of the continuing Uranus-Pluto square, but with Mars involved to energise it (Mars/Pluto midpoint square Uranus).  This is a huge power battle (Pluto). The symbolism of this I have described above, but classically the Uranus-Pluto square historically is about people rising up against the powers that be to demand greater equality, and to be heard. The involvement of Mars in this as well suggests anger, and even the violence that has been inflicted on the peaceful protestors. Neptune is strong at this time; particular when in Pisces, it rules oil, and water; the major issues in this battle. Neptune is square to Saturn in Sagittarius, asking how far the law (Sagittarius) is protecting water (Neptune in Pisces).

November 2nd: Again this isn’t specific to one day, but is coming to a peak in the last days of the US election. This reflects the angry, bitter recriminations between the two candidates (Mars/Pluto square Uranus), but also the Saturn-Neptune square of what is true and what is not, who can we believe or trust? There have been many, many issues of trust and honesty connected to both candidates.

November 3rd: A High Court ruling in London stated that the MPs must be allowed to debate the Brexit terms before the government triggers Article 50, and begins the withdrawl from the EU: Apart from the sudden, unexpected change of direction with this, is it interesting that Mars was coming to the last ‘critical’ degree of Capricorn, linked to constitutional matters. The square between Saturn in Sagittarius (the law) and Neptune in Pisces (confusion, dissolving the prevailing direction) is still operational.

November 5th: American hackers have breached Russia’s government telecoms system and power grid: Source Russia Today. This reflects today’s Moon conjunct Pluto and square to Uranus; essentially the Moon is highlighting the Uranus-Pluto square, and the Mars/Pluto midpoint is also square to Uranus. The symbolism speaks of an aggressive (Mars) cyber attack (Uranus-Pluto).

November 5th: There were anti-government protests today in Florence, with tear gas being used against the protesters. The protests were about constitutional changes: This is very interesting as the Moon-Pluto conjunction is in Capricorn, linked to the government and constitutional matters. The Moon was highlighting the Uranus-Pluto square, so other protests were seen in Istanbul and Germany today too. The urge is for the people to rise up against the government and be heard. The Moon in mundane (world) astrology represents the people.

November 6th: Tiny homes are being banned in America: a great example of ‘corporatocracy’: People are protesting against this, again a reflection of the Uranus-Pluto square.

November 7th: A wonderful invention called a WaterSeer can obtain pure, fresh water from thin air. It pulls in water from the air, and sucks it down into a chamber in the ground which cools and condenses up to 11 gallons of water, and keeps it pure and fresh. Each WaterSeer costs only $134. This is a future vision to help the huge number of people in the world who have no fresh water: This reflects the symbolism of Neptune in Pisces (water) conjunct the Nodal Axis (the collective), providing water for the people.

November 9th: I mentioned in my last video that Venus, which is linked to currencies and money, today was conjoint the Galactic Centre at 27 Sagittarius, and on the 11th will be conjunct the Aries Point. Therefore we may expect some changes in currencies, or news involving money. Remember we also have other background aspects of surprise, sudden events etc. Late yesterday the Indian Prime Minister suddenly announced that certain widely used high denomination banknotes would be illegal in just a few hours, which has sparked panic amongst many Indian people, and 86% of the value of currency was taken out of the cash market, virtually overnight: This is a move towards a cashless, digital only society, which other countries are considering too, such as Australia. There will be more big movements in currencies over the next four years.

November 10th: Protests against the election of Donald Trump as President spread across major US cities, with protestors chanting ‘Not my President’, and burning effigies of him: This reflects the angry Mars/Pluto midpoint square to Uranus and Eris in Aries, the sign of the warrior, and Jupiter also part of a T-square with the Uranus-Pluto square. Essentially, this is about a revolutionary sense of many people feeling they are not being heard or represented. Uranus is about people rising up against the powers that be, represented by Pluto. Mars can bring aggression into the picture, and Jupiter expands those rebellious urges. Things turned more violent in Portland Oregon on the night of the 10th, with police having to use tear gas and rubber bullets to dispel the crowd of anti-Trump protesters: Under this same symbolism, tens of thousands of people protested in Seoul, South Korea, to demand the resignation of the President Park:

November 11th: A 6.2 magnitude earthquake has erupted just off the north east coast Japan. As the SuperMoon of the 14th is the strongest for 70 years, and it is very close to the Earth, the gravitational pull on the tectonic plates is particularly powerful. We are already well within the influence of this Full Moon SuperMoon which is exact on the 14th, the closest one to the Earth since January 1948.

November 12th: A beautiful show of love, using social media. A dog owner in Cornwall sent out a message asking dog owners to join him on a beach for his pet dog’s last walk before he was put to sleep. Hundreds of people joined Walnut and his owner on the beach for this; a very touching display of so much love by dog owners, but also the power of social media to arrange this freely and quickly. We can achieve so much in this way, for the good: This was just before the Full Moon SuperMoon on the 14th, an emotional cycle of closure and completion when feelings are running high. The Full Moon SuperMoon was in Taurus, ruled by Venus, representing love; in this case, for Walnut.

November 13th: A powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake hits the South Island in New Zealand. This is a huge earthquake:, just as the Full Moon SuperMoon reaches a peak.

November 15th: The UK is experiencing some extreme situations in prisons. They are overcrowded, prisoners are rioting, and prison officers are threatening strike action. Neptune is strong this week, conjunct the South Node on the 17th and stationary direct on the 20th. Neptune is the planet most associated with prisons, and the square from Saturn is about withdrawal of labour (strikes). Neptune conjunct the South Node suggests the collective result of our actions in this area, and how we (or the government, Saturn) must make conscious decisions to do things differently in future.

November 16th: As Neptune squares Mercury, and tomorrow will be exactly conjunct the South Node, three Dutch shipwrecks have disappeared from the bottom of the Java Sea: This reflects the symbolism of Neptune in Pisces: the sea, ships, missing, mysteries, and loss, and the square to Mercury suggests this will appear in the news.

November 20th: Exactly on the day that Neptune becomes stationary direct, and therefore its symbolism is magnified, the oil company that wants to build the North Dakota pipeline has spilled 55,000 gallons of oil into the 3rd most endangered river in the US, which supplies water to the New York, Maryland and Pennsylvania areas. Neptune is the planet associated both with oil, and water, and deception, as this event did not appear on mainstream news. It also reflects the developing square between Saturn (=corporations, in its rulership of Capricorn) and Chiron in Pisces, polluted (or ‘wounded’) water.

November 21st: A 7.3 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Japan; the Uranus-Pluto-Jupiter T-square is operational, and we are still in the orb of influence of the Full Moon SuperMoon of the 14th.

November 24th: Jill Stein, former US Presidential candidate, is demanding an investigation of the US voting system where she is claiming that fraud or hacking may have been involved: She is now claiming that Hillary Clinton, who lost the election, has received 2 million more votes than Donald Trump. This reflects the continuing Saturn square Neptune, of what is true and what is not, and also we are building towards the New Moon in Sagittarius (sign of truth), but with the Sun and Moon tightly square to Neptune (deception, things not being as they seem). As my video notes, this describes a tension between truth and non-truth; the truth becoming more elusive, the deeper one digs:

November 28th: As we are almost at the New Moon in Sagittarius, which as you will see from my video above discusses the elusive nature of truth, we have much in the news about ‘fake news’ and how we distinguish it from truth: This is one of many articles about fake news, and how it may have even affected the US election.

November 28th: Saturn in Sagittarius (borders, foreigners, migrants) is still square to Neptune in Pisces (refugees, homeless, destitute), and the New Moon on the 29th has the Sun and Moon in Sagittarius square to Neptune in Pisces, which reinforces the same symbolism. The Turkish President Recep Erdogan has said to the EU that unless they open up talks to allow Turkey membership of the EU, and Turkish nationals visa-free travel, he will open up Turkey’s borders to allow around 3 million refugees, many from Syria, into western Europe:

November 29th: We now have a square between Saturn in Sagittarius (the law) and Chiron in Pisces (literally ‘wounded’ or polluted water). So the meaning here is how far the law can or should protect the cleanliness of our water from pollution. Chiron is linked to a feeling of injustice, ‘it’s just not fair’. The Dakota pipeline is a big example of this, but more generally tap water is very polluted from many sources:

December 2016

A beneficial aspect that we have right through December, and it is operational for the next year, is Saturn in Sagittarius (17-21 degrees) trine to Uranus and Eris in Aries at 20 degrees. This aspect is exact on the 24th. This can be helpful and stabilising in contrast to many other aspects at the moment, as Uranus can bring breakthroughs and innovation, but Saturn helps to ground them and make them practical. It helps realism and pragmatism in situations where we may be feeling a soaring idealism, particularly after the New Moon at 7 degrees 43 minutes of Sagittarius on the 29th November, when the Sun and Moon were square to Neptune. The trine between Saturn in Sagittarius and Uranus in Aries should encourage us to become more self-sufficient and autonomous in our lives; this will be an important theme in 2017.

We have had a square between Saturn and Neptune for the last year, and we have seen this ‘what is true and what is not’ smoke and mirrors over that time amongst many world leaders; it was certainly prominent in the US election campaign. This aspect is easing now, but is being replaced by Chiron (at 20 Pisces) square to Saturn (17-21 Sagittarius this month), which may make us feel more sensitive and vulnerable. This is exact on 28th December. Chiron is the wounded healer archetype, but its impetus is always to help us shift our spiritual perspective upwards, to reach for something higher and better, to see the bigger picture. So on the one hand we may be very aware of the challenges in our 3D physical reality (Saturn), but the square to Chiron can encourage us to see them in a different way. What is the good that we are not yet seeing in a situation? What can it teach us? Is it encouraging us to take a different course of action in future, to reach for a better way? Both Neptune and Chiron in Pisces at 9 and 20 degrees respectively (so be aware if you have any planets or angles around those degrees of the mutable signs, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) are principles that make us aware of higher spiritual law, unconditional love, healing, and peace. The more we can meditate, be in nature or be creative, to achieve that altered state of ‘bliss’, so that becomes a bigger and bigger part of our daily reality, the better our outer reality will start to appear. We live from the inside out, not the outside in. Astrology proves that, in that everyone’s life reflects their birthchart, but lived at different levels depending on your consciousness.

If you have Neptune at 9 Pisces aspecting any of your personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars), you may feel lower physical energy as Neptune dissolves your gross physical energy to refine your spiritual perception. If Chiron is aspecting any of your personal planets (20 Pisces), you may feel a little poorly, or even feel psychologically wounded by someone; but the message here is that you have outgrown that company, and have to see the situation from a higher state of being. So both Neptune and Chiron inspire us to something higher and finer, as if we are being guided by spiritual law.

Possible manifestations around the square between Saturn in Sagittarius and Chiron in Pisces may be about how the law protects (or doesn’t protect) water (Pisces). So this can take the form of pollution, or threats to water (the Dakota pipeline), and in general the quality and availability of tap water globally. Neptune in Pisces represents oil, and water, with Chiron’s symbolism in Pisces linked to polluted water, and feelings of injustice. Any developments in these areas are likely to trigger the  dominant symbolism for the next 5 months, that of the T-square between Jupiter, Pluto, Uranus and Eris, discussed below.

It will be important to be aware these aspects, as the outer world may be quite volatile and turbulent for some months. Try to observe but not engage, don’t get too emotionally charged about situations as it only energises any negativity you you may be feeling, of anger or injustice. For all of us it will be important to cultivate a sense of peace and calm, and we will broadcast that out to the world. We may feel some intensity on the 2nd of the month when the Moon comes to conjunct Pluto at 16 degrees Capricorn, highlighting the square to Uranus, Eris, and Jupiter. The Moon also aspects this T-square on the 9th when it is in Aries conjunct Uranus and Eris at 20 Aries, then repeats the conjunction to Pluto on the 29th. Those are all days when intensity may be felt strongly ‘by the people’, which the Moon represents in mundane astrology. The Moon also represents our own emotions, so be aware of not acting precipitously on those days. The end of December may be particularly intense with some surprises occuring, as Uranus which has been retrograde, comes to its stationary direct point also on the 29th December. A planet’s symbolism is always magnified at the stationary point, so the eruptive, sudden, rebellious, surprising and even shocking energy may come to the fore then. Remember the purpose of this is breaking down the old to break through to the new, and Uranus also has connections to our superconscious, and receiving downloads and insights from there to help us move forwards. Any insights we have received while Uranus was retrograde since 29th July, we can now start to implement, especially as Uranus gathers speed going into 2017. This can also help our creativity and innovation.

The dominant aspect until April 2017 is the T-square between Uranus and Eris in Aries, Pluto in Capricorn, and Jupiter in Libra (17-21 degrees Libra). Jupiter expands the revolutionary, intense qualities of the Uranus-Pluto square, which is about people demanding a greater voice, and greater equality in society (an obvious example here is the Dakota pipeline), versus the big corporations, governments, and any autocratic controlling organisation. Uranus shines the light of truth on any corruption or under-handedness, or lack of honesty in big corporations. There is likely to be a high level of social activism this month and into 2017, as many people feel an increasing degree of control by these organisations (Pluto), and a shrinking of democracy (Uranus=freedom, independence, equality). Pluto represents issues of power, and the square to Jupiter in Libra will challenge how fairly, justly and responsibly that power is being used. The square between Jupiter and Pluto can expand (Jupiter) issues of debt, defaults and deficits, so these may appear in the news more over the next few months.

This is emphasised as most of the planets at the moment are in signs between Libra and Pisces, the last six signs of the zodiac. This can give us a feeling of being at times pushed around, or carried along by the tide of events. Neptune is conjunct the South Node, and although in its positive aspect can represent high idealism, in its less positive sense is associated with feeling like the victim (a natural result of feeling any injustice), disempowerment, disillusionment, disappointment, wanting to escape to a more spiritual and perfect reality. How have we got to here, you may be asking yourself. However, that response is giving away your power to the 'other', whoever they are. We have a choice in every moment in how we react to things. Use this prominent Neptune for the rest of the month to tune into your higher guidance, to 'intuit' what is your highest path, and whatever the circumstances to step into the light as the co-creator of your life. Everything in our reality changes when we shift our perception about our own power, and what we value. See whatever is unfolding for you now as a turning point. It is a collective closure, a completion, a pivot point; how can you start to see situations, and your own power within them, in a different way? Then everything starts to shift as we abandon our victimhood.

On a personal level, this T-square is about personal transformation and redefining yourself, particularly if any of the planets involved aspects any planets or angles in your natal chart (Jupiter 17-21 Libra, Uranus and Eris 20 and 21 Aries, Pluto 16 Capricorn). Jupiter is the planet of joy, expansion, personal growth, wisdom, abundance, and higher consciousness, and Uranus is the planet of sudden out-of-the-blue opportunities, and insights into our lives from a higher place of being. This opposition which is exact on 26th December, but continues until April 2017, can bring amazing unexpected opportunities into our lives, but we have to act quickly on them, as Uranus always speeds things up. It can give us a sense of excitement, fast moving events, liberation, and can help us innovate and be creative in surprising ways. It can make us want to travel, throw off responsibilities, be young again, and even challenge the prevailing social values and strike out in some alternative way. I believe the growing social activism will also galvanise a sense of global community, which will accelerate the proliferation of real communities springing up across the world, maybe living off-grid. This is partly because the last major Uranus-Pluto aspect (the conjunction) was in the mid-60s when peace, love and community living was prominent; now, as the square between these planets repeats, we vortex up in echoing that past, but living it from a higher level of being. As I have mentioned before, I believe that the understanding of magnetism and vibration (Uranus semi-square to Neptune) will play an important role in society in the future. This can be via such modalities as sound healing, to enable us to achieve our ‘bliss’ (Neptune), or new technological devices (Uranus) will help us with this too.

The internet was born at the Uranus-Pluto conjunction in the mid-60s, and during the current Uranus-Pluto square has emphasised communication via social media. The wonderful thing about social media is the ability to connect with like-minded people globally and instantly. Remember that the Arab Spring uprisings in April 2011 (the beginning of this Uranus-Pluto square) were largely organised on Facebook and Twitter, as they undercut the control of the authoritarian channels. A revolution of fairness, justice, tolerance, respect for one another, and love for the Earth will continue to grow towards 2020. It is undeniable that there is a massive, revolutionary force for change in our world. We can be peaceful, but in numbers we can be powerful, connecting globally.

Part of this picture as I have mentioned recently is the dwarf planet Haumea, which is opposing Uranus and Eris until early 2018. As Haumea is strongly associated with a new consciousness, and healing and regenerating the Earth, this will encourage us to make some big shifts in our state of being. The intensity and challenge of the Uranus square Pluto, where more and more of us may be challenging the values of the powers that be, and wanting to live in a different way, will accelerate our own personal development. It is only when things are uncomfortable that we make greater efforts to change what is.

These are the strong prevailing aspects for December; now more detail for other planetary developments: Mercury will be moving retrograde from the 20th December through to the 8th January, moving back from 15 Capricorn to 28 Sagittarius. See where this falls in your own chart, as you can use this retrograde to ‘go back over’ that area of life and iron out more of the details. Mercury retrograde is excellent for that, it doesn’t have to be troublesome. From the 18th-20th, Mercury will join Pluto is this T-square discussed above, so we may want to speak out about something we feel strongly about, especially issues of freedom (Uranus in Aries) and fairness and justice (Jupiter in Libra).

Then on the 13th December at 4.05pm PST and on the 14th at 00.05am UK time, we have the Full Moon at 22 degrees 25 Gemini. The Jupiter-Haumea-Pluto-Uranus-Eris T-square is of course happening during this Full Moon, with Mercury also conjunct Pluto in Capricorn, increasing our mental focus and intensity. At a Full Moon the Sun and Moon are always opposing each other, so the Moon is in Gemini, and the Sun in Sagittarius. Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter, is about higher consciousness, wisdom, expansion, understanding the interconnectedness of the universe, and Gemini is about making it practical, bringing it down to earth. It channels the idealism of Sagittarius. Saturn is conjunct the Sun at this Full Moon, bringing a greater sense of groundedness, realism and practicality into the picture. So the feeling may well be that many of us have a sense of soaring idealism about how the world could/should be, but how are we going to achieve that, practically? What can we do to bring that closer to fruition?

We are helped by a wonderful Grand Trine in Air at this Full Moon, between the Moon in Gemini, Jupiter in Libra, and Mars in Aquarius (22, 19 and 25 degrees respectively). This is idealistic, creative, innovative, and generous; it suggests that the people will be energetic (Mars in the sign of the collective, Aquarius) in expressing their views. There is a feeling of ‘there is a better way’, all reinforcing the aspects discussed above. Jupiter in this Grand Trine and also in its opposition to Uranus encourages us to have a bigger vision of who we can become, bigger horizons. A Full Moon is always a cycle of completion, closure, or culmination. It can be the results of what we have achieved, and it can shine a light on what was previously unknown, to modify our direction going forwards. So see where it falls in your chart, and watch to see what unfolds at this Full Moon to guide you to the next stage of life.

Then we have the Capricorn Solstice on the 21st December at 2.44am PST and 10.44am UK time. This is when the Sun enters the sign of Capricorn. Solstices are important portals, when the veil thins, and we can receive information from a higher source. They are also like tuning forks which ‘set the tone’ for the next three months. Mercury is conjunct Pluto in the T-square discussed so far, so there can be issues of power, and powerful words, that are spoken globally at this time. Mars is semi-square to Pluto at the Solstice, emphasising power dynamics, and willpower, and in terms of the astrocartography, the Jupiter-Uranus opposition falls across Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the Middle East, where we may see some developments around issues of power.

Then we have a New Moon at 7 degrees 59 Capricorn on 28th December, at 10.53pm PST and 6.53am UK time on the 29th. Remember that Uranus becomes stationary also on the 29th. See where this new beginning falls in your chart, and watch for what unfolds. At this New Moon, the Sun and Moon are widely conjunct Pluto in Capricorn, again suggesting issues of power, and how we can have a new beginning in the use of power in society. Capricorn is not only concerned with government and big corporations, but the structure of society too. It also rules big business, and powerful financial organisations. This Capricorn Moon becomes exactly conjunct Pluto on the 29th, and square to Uranus and Eris, thus highlighting the Uranus-Pluto square once again.

Mars is conjunct Neptune at 9 Pisces on the 30th, which will enable us to feel compassion, and energise our spiritual goals at the end of the year; a great time to write your New Year’s resolutions!

“What you see as cosmos is a living mind – intelligent space.”

I’m getting excellent feedback on my book, audiobook and video teaching products, and they are all great ways to learn more about astrology. I’ve recently filmed about an hour’s worth of video teaching on transiting Jupiter and Saturn through your birthchart. These are such important cycles in everyone’s life at any time. You will need to have a copy of your birthchart, which you can now  download from for free (, then the tutorial should give you some very rich information at any time in your life about where you are expanding, and can expect success, recognition and opportunites, and where you need to apply focus, work and discipline. These cycles are one of the first things I look for in preparing a chart. You will know from my updates where the positions of Jupiter and Saturn are in the heavens, and then can work out what that means for you in your life, and you can constantly refer back to them over the years. I have tried to keep all my videos very inexpensive, as I want them to be accessible for everyone. Here is the link to my store: Enjoy!

My book:

My audiobook:

The two part video tutorials on how you find aspects in your chart, and meanings of the houses in your birthchart: This will help you understand where all the New and Full Moons and aspects I mention in my updates fall in your own birthchart, and what that means for you in your life. The tutorials will last you a lifetime, as you can always refer to them.

Once you download a free birthchart from my website, you can start to use the tutorial videos straight away. There is a description that comes with the chart (which I did not write), and people have said this is very accurate. However, please remember that a computer-generated description with a list of characteristics is a very different experience to having a full consultation with a professional astrologer, who through synthesising this matrix of meaning, can give you profound insights into who you truly are.

You can find my recent video on the elements, modalities, rulerships and astrological signs at this link:

I am going to post the planetary positions each month. I will not include the Sun and Moon, as they move quickly, but will post the others so you can work out the transits to your natal chart:

Mercury - 28 Sagittarius - 15 Capricorn on 19th, then retrograde to 3 Capricorn

Venus - 23 Capricorn to 26 Aquarius

Mars - 16 Aquarius to 9 Pisces

Jupiter - 16- 21 Libra

Saturn - 17 - 21 Sagittarius

Uranus - 20 Aries, stationary direct on the 29th

Neptune - 9 Pisces

Pluto - 16 Capricorn

Chiron - 20 Pisces
