Ladies & Gentlemen,

Rambo is the Alpha, Elvis is the Omega, and under the careful guidance of our dear friend Leonard Cohen, now speaking to us sweetly from the Great Beyond, we step aside to watch the serpent eat his tail.  First, Rambo takes Manhattan (again). Then, Elvis takes Malmo & Berlin.  And when Elvis and Rambo encounter, you ask, what remains to keep?  Well, I'll tell you. Paul Newman.
THE GREAT PRETENDER
a new creation by Zachary Oberzan

In the Spring of 2015, a man randomly met a theater technician on a bus in Antwerp. Claiming to be the famous American film/theater maker Zachary Oberzan, the man was soon introduced to the senior staff of deSingel Internationale Kunstcampus, where he promised to create a new work using them as actors and their theater as the location.  After a week of rehearsals, the staff grew suspicious, the man was revealed as an imposter, and was arrested by Belgian police for fraud. Renowned Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami read about this minor incident, and deeply intrigued, filmed the trial and re-constructed the events leading up to it. What we discover is the complex story of a man torn by profound issues of identity, frustration, and artistic creation that spill over into our own lives, as we ourselves struggle with what role each of us are to play in the world.

"Oberzan's project does not resemble anything else. Very funny, very sad, very strange and very serious. An extremely impressive performance, from the euphoric to absolutely helpless.
"
--ADRESSAVISEN, Norway

"We glimpse the driving force behind Zachary Oberzan's artistic work: an intense and wholehearted attempt to be in the other's place.

FLOODING WITH LOVE FOR THE KID
a feature film by Zachary Oberzan

Meticulously adapted from David Morrell’s novel FIRST BLOOD, which introduced the world to a young man named Rambo and his one-man war against a small town and its sheriff. This film was shot, acted & edited entirely for $96 in a 20-sq-meter apartment in Manhattan by one man. Can you make a great film with nothing but your love of the work?  Completely transgressive yet action-packed and heartbreaking, this film destroys all previous notions of low-budget filmmaking with a determination lifted from Rambo’s own furious rampage.

"One man’s pulp is another man’s perfection...A brilliant morsel."
--NEW YORK TIMES

"An outsider-cinema masterpiece...Oberzan's mania knows no bounds."
--TIME OUT NEW YORK

Director/Actor/Cinematographer/Sound/Editor/Special Effects, etc. by Zachary Oberzan
