Alma Doepel hosts VCAL students
from Wyndham Central College in a new community initiative to provide curriculum outcomes for students at the Alma Shed...
On Thursday 28th March 20 students along with two teachers from Wyndham Central College visited the Alma Doepel as part of their VCAL training curriculum outcomes..
The students watched a video on work safety in the workplace with additional issues specific to sailing ships. Students then completed a multiple-choice questionnaire designed to demonstrate each fully understood the safety rules when working on a tall ship and in any workplace with inherent dangers. Students were then shown around the Restoration and Veterans Exhibition "Soldiers at Sea".
The program was made possible by a grant received from the Victorian International Container Terminal Community Investment Fund. We are hopeful students from other schools will visit Alma Doepel to take part in this program to understand what is required to run a tall ship . A big thank you to the Alma volunteers who assisted in making the day a success.
Peter Harris, Peter Van Duyn, Daryl Brooks, Barry Semple (Alma Doepel) and Allan Bernardi (Wyndham Central College) enabled the project to become a reality along with volunteers Tim Horton and Colin Lill who assisted on the day to ensure the program ran smoothly.

There are a number of ways
you can help raise money for Alma
1. The end of financial year is looming, and with that you may be thinking about tax deductible donations!
Please think of the Alma Doeple Restoration Project.
2. Why not get a group together and come on a "Behind the Scenes Tour" of the Alma Doepel. If each member makes a small donation - say $10 - we will provide a tour with morning tea. You will see up close the work that is going on and learn about the 115 years of history including service to:
Eastern seaboard of Australia,
Hobart and Melbourne,
the Army in WW2 in the Pacific Islands
and her new role providing Youth Sail Training for young people equipping them for success in their lives
3. If you are considering a mortgage in the near future - you might want to have a look at the AWA Alliance Bank who have an arrangement with the Alma Doepel to assist in the Restoration. As an example if you took out a $250,000 mortgage at 4.09% it might deliver Alma Doepel approximately $1,300 a year. Something for you to think about.
A Strategic Partnership between Alma Doepel and AWA Alliance Bank has been established.
Through this partnership you can support Alma Doepel’s restoration by considering AWA Alliance Bank for your banking needs..
