Shipwrights maneuvering a plank into place for steaming "in situ".
End of Financial Year appeal to Supporters
With the end of the Financial Year looming in just 2 weeks we think that the Alma Doepel Restoration would benefit greatly from a donation about now, and would like to remind you that such a donation would be tax deductible.
The planking and caulking stage is now underway as you can see in the image above. A second row of planks was started last week. Here we see our shipwrights steaming a bow plank-this is done "in situ" due to the weight and the short time available to crank a hot steaming plank into place. The plank has been cut to a precise shape to ensure it fits snugly once it is in place. These planks weigh over 100kgs and require a coordinated effort by a number of skilled people to maneuver it safely into place.
