The Hamilton Mill business incubator has undertaken a unique approach to revitalize Hamilton, Ohio by leveraging City owned utilities and other partnerships that will add value to incoming clients, specifically in advanced manufacturing, clean technology, water based technologies, and digital. These efforts have proved fruitful as The Mill has recruited several new clients that fit this new vision going forward including kW River Hydroelectric, Perceptive Devices, Hub Energy Group, Lagoon, RespondBy, and most recently Municipal Brew Works. "We have developed a model that adds tremendous value and benefit to our new clients' startup efforts," says Executive Director, Chris Lawson. Lawson adds, "To be able to provide instant access to residential and business utility customers for testing of an innovative energy idea is an enormous advantage when it comes to developing a startup."
In addition to the 2014 OEDA award, The Hamilton Mill was also recognized earlier this year by the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) and the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). The Hamilton Mill won the ASPA award for its collaborative efforts in a public/private partnership with the City of Hamilton.
