Faculty and Student Spotlight
Professor Andrea Shearer, Dance Division Director, was honored by the Akron Area Arts Alliance with the Arts Alive! Art Educator Award at a special ceremony on Nov. 3, 2013. Congratulations Andrea! 
Congratulations to Dr. Rosemarie Bank whose entry "Antebellum Frontier and Urban Plays, 1825-60" appeared in the recently published first edition of The Oxford Handbook of American Drama (2014).

Dr. Bank's article, "Arbiters of National Culture: Newspapers, Thomas S. Hamblin, the Bowery Theatre, and the Miss Missouri Affair" was also recently published in the New England Theatre Journal
Congratulations to Associate Professor Kimberly Karpanty whose chapter, "Lynn Simonson and the Simonson Technique," was included in the recently published textbook Jazz Dance: A History of the Roots and Branches (University Press of Florida, 2014).
Assistant Professor of Dance Joan Meggitt was recently recognized in an article in The Plain Dealer for her work with the Yes…I Can(!) Dance program. The program, held at the Mandel Jewish Community Center in Beachwood, is designed to alleviate the symptoms of Parkinson's Disease through dance.
Congratulations to the entire Porthouse Theatre company for receiving Superior Achievement recognition from the Cleveland Critics Circle for the production of Fiddler on the Roof.

Additionally, Eric van Baars, John Crawford and Mary Ann Black, and Jennifer Korecki were all recognized with Superior Achievement in their respective categories of Direction, Choreography, and Musical Direction.

Student Shane Cutlip was recognized with Superior Achievement in Sound Design.

2013 marked the 100th Anniversary of the School of Theatre and Dance. To commemorate this occasion, students, faculty and staff gathered in August for a group photo.

Kent State Theatre and Dance:
A Destination for Guest Artists
On December 6, 2013, the Limon Dance Company visited the School of Theatre and Dance as part of the Thomas Schroth Visiting Artist Series. While here, Artistic Director Carla Maxwell hosted a Master Class with Dance students. (View more photos from the Master Class on our Facebook page).
Christopher K. Morgan visits campus Jan. 30 - Feb. 2 to rehearse with the Kent Dance Ensemble. A meet and greet will take place on Jan. 31 from 3pm - 4pm in the lobby outside the Dance studios. Morgan's visit is the first in the Armstrong Family Visiting Artist Series, made possible by Lawrence R. and Sandra C. Armstrong. 
Tony Award winner Michael Rupert returns to campus during February to work on his new musical "Natural Disasters in the City of Los Angeles." A staged reading will take place in the EZ Theatre on Feb. 24 & 25.  
Joseph Hanreddy is the 2014 Roe Green Visiting Director. He will direct his adaptation (with JR Sullivan) of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Rehearsals begin in March and the show opens Fri. April 18
Porthouse Kicks Off 2014 Season
Porthouse Theatre returns for its 46th season this summer with productions of My Fair Lady, Starmites and Oliver!
