Eric van Baars travels to South Korea's Dongseo University
The School of Theatre and Dance has embarked on a new international partnership with South Korea’s Dongseo University. In this first stage of the partnership, Associate Professor Eric van Baars will travel to Busan, South Korea this month to join the Dongseo faculty as a guest artist. 

While there van Baars will teach a course in musical theatre scene study and direct a fully staged production of Stephen Schwartz’s Children of Eden. He will also direct a professional production of Huan Birthday Shoes for the MAC Theatre Company. Both productions will be performed in Korean.
BFA Senior Dance Concert/Student Dance Festival Opens March 14
B.F.A Senior Dance Concert/Student Dance Festival: The Light Within Us will run from March 14-16, with Program A at 8pm March 14th and at 2pm March 15th and Program B at 8pm March 15th and 2pm March 16th, in the Louis O. Erdmann and William H. Zucchero (EZ) Theatre.

The Light Within Us presents 16 pieces of original choreography created by juniors and seniors who are pursuing either a major or minor within Kent State's Dance Division. In addition, senior B.F.A. Dance Performance major Katie Scekeres will perform a solo entitled 'Mars' from Celestial Celebration, choreographed by KSU Associate Professor Barbara Allegra Verlezza and her husband, Sabatino Verlezza.

Legally Blonde Opens to Sold Out Crowd
Congratulations to the cast and crew of Legally Blonde on their sold out run!  The show opened on February 21 to a sold out crowd. Legally Blonde runs through Sunday, March 2. 
Director Speaks Series Features Legally Blonde
Members of the Legally Blonde production team spoke at the Performing Arts Library's Director Speaks event on Monday, February 17. If you missed the event, you can watch the video here
Faculty and Staff News
Assistant Professor Bill Sallak recently completed writing the liner notes for flutist Lisa Cella's forthcoming CD of music by Stuart Saunders Smith. He will write liner notes for another CD of Smith's music performed by violinist Airi Yioshika for New World Records.

Sallak also contributed a chapter in the forthcoming book The Modern Percussion Revolution: Journeys of the Progressive Artist (May 2014, Routledge).
Assistant Professor Jennifer Korecki, seated at piano, is currently the Music Director for the Musical Theatre Project's 50th Anniversary Celebration of Fiddler on the Roof. Korecki was the Music Director for Porthouse Theatre's production of Fiddler in 2013. For more information, visit the Musical Theatre Project's website.
Congratulations to Jennelizabeth Bice, Performing Arts Box Office Manager, who was recently nominated for a position on the Executive Board of the Ohio College Personnel Association. 
Visiting Artists 
In conjunction with the School of Theatre and Dance's partnership with South Korea's Dongseo University, Professor Oh, Se Joon visited campus at the end of January. He toured the school's facilities and met with faculty and students. He is pictured here with professor Jakyung Seo.
Electronic Theatre Controls (ETC) visited campus on February 13, 2014 and presented a Master Class to students.
Everett Quinton visited campus on Tuesday, February 25 from 2-4pm in the EZ Theatre to present a Master Class to students. Quinton is the former Artistic Director of the Ridiculous Theatre Company.
