"Minnie Quay," New Musical by Theatre and Dance Alumni,
To Be Performed This Summer
Porthouse Theatre's 2014 Season will feature a special presentation of a new musical, Minnie Quay, produced, written, and orchestrated by Kent State School of Theatre and Dance alumni.

A staged reading of Minnie Quay will take place at Porthouse Theatre on Thursday, August 7 and Friday, August 8 at 3pm. Admission is free of charge. No tickets are required.

Based on an American folk legend, this haunting new musical tells of Minnie Quay, a young girl in a Michigan port town who falls in love with a sailor against her parents' wishes. With fate and circumstance tearing them apart, Minnie is forced to decide what is the ultimate price she is willing to pay for love.

Music and Lyrics by alumnus Connor Simpson.
Book by alumna Anna Bradley.
Orchestrations by alumnus Vincent Ester.
The production will be directed by alumnus Jerimie Newcomb.
Faculty Spotlight
Faculty member Bill Auld produced and directed Rose & The Rime at Kent State Tuscawaras last month. Rose & The Rime, created by Nathan Allen, Chris Matthews and Jake Minton, is a modern folk tale about love, greed and fate in which main character Rose saves her town amidst the dangers and temptations of greed.

The show was originally staged at 2008's American College Theatre Festival. Auld was part of the original creative team.
