What is the best thing we can do for our clients?

Is there such a thing as over communicating?We frequently question what we do by asking ourselves “what is the best thing we can do for our clients?”
Usually the answer is – we are already doing it. Sometimes the answer is that we can’t do any more, but they or their parent/head office could do xyz which would augment what we are able to do - like improve SEO on the website for example. At other times we notice a trend or opportunity that we believe we and our clients should act on.
 
At the moment we believe the answer is simple – do more.
 
A long time ago we were limited in the PR material we could put out because Trade & Tech editors were overwhelmed with material but had very limited space to accommodate even the most interesting pieces. Today, printed journals are still restricted by space supported by advertising in a straightforward ratio type relationship, but their sister websites have no such restriction.
 
So the valid question is “how much PR can we/should we do” (before we overload the goodwill of publishers and editors).
 
Some companies today are establishing a huge product portfolio which gives rise to a quite reasonable demand to present more material.
 
Our view has been that so long as the information is relevant and of good quality then previous norms of one to two releases per month could be readily doubled. A straw poll of editors yielded unanimous agreement.
 
Likewise with social media – it seems the more the better – with the simple caveat that it should be proportionate to budget and in step with the PR.
