Hinoki Cypress, Expanded Grass Selection, A Very Brief August Break.
Our go-to evergreens are, of course, Taxus, boxwood, spruce, arborvitae, holly. These reliable work horses constitute most local installations. Slender Hinoki cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Gracilis') offers something special many of these staples do not. Pairing a very dark green cast with an artistic form, the Hinoki is compelling enough to be a focal point of any installation, on par with the role frequently played by the popular blue spruce.
Ornamental grasses continue to expand and mature as a design option. Always tough, fast growing, and affordable, today's grass selection is more varied than ever. We offer 1 and 3 gallon selections from around the world, in quantity. Prairie dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepis), Little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium), Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum), fountain grass (Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Cassian'), as well as lesser-known purple love grass (Eragrostis spectablis), mosquito grass (Bouteloua 'Blonde Ambition') and more make up our true grass collection. Our grass-like Carex collection allows designers to use the grass texture in dry or moist shade, and even in boggy soil in full sun.
For two weeks, starting tomorrow, Thursday August 3, through next Friday, August 11, we will close at noon on both Thursday and Friday. If you have a special need to come in at this time, please contact, in advance, the office at 859.333.3794, or contact Whit Baker at 859.433.8856.
