Our offices have been open since the 6th of January but many of us had a somewhat extended break this year, and are only just getting back into the swing of things!
A package arrived for us end of last year. It appeared to be a very classy bottle of champagne with no 'sender address'. Everyone was left wondering who had sent it, but it wasn't actually opened until this week. It was quite humourous to find on opening that the packaging was indeed the box from a very pricey champagne, but the actual contents was something very different - still appreciated, but not what was expected!
Unfortunately, clients often end up in a similar situation with regard to their 'smart building' - it's "kinda" what they wanted, but falls short of expectations! We recently discussed this common scenario in our blog, and believe we've found a way to address the problem: providing cost savings to meet budget, but covering client expectations now, and for the future use of the building.
A zero energy building is one that consumes no more energy from external sources than it is able to produce itself. "Zero Energy" has become a bit of a buzzword of late, but we found this a useful link on what should be considered when designing a zero energy building. Of importance to our industry as lighting control plays an integral part!
IEL - OUR NEWS

If you haven't yet had a look at our new website, please do so. It went live a few months ago but with the end of year rush we really haven't shouted too much about it. We genuinely welcome your feedback. Please let us know what you think. As always it continues to be a work in progress as we continually update and improve on the content.

What We Do
Our new website details the services we provide as we work on 'creating smarter buildings'. These services include:
Lighting Control - considered essential for commercial buildings. Different buildings (warehouses, offices, retail stores, hospitals, schools, hotels etc) will require different lighting control solutions.
Building Integration - when the numerous control technologies in a smart building are linked to allow seamless operation as a single system.
Audio Visual Solutions - can include all the elements we interact with in the workplace in an audio or visual way. Standalone or integrated solutions to suit your budget and your needs.
Cloud Controlled Systems - access on demand for total mobility to control your building from virtually anywhere. Significant cost-savings through remote and pre-emptive maintenance.
Monitoring and Reporting - modern technology allows comprehensive monitoring of building systems and the provision of automated reports in a format that is meaningful for facility managers.
Intelligent Home Packages (coming soon) - installed by the electrical contractor and programmed remotely allowing the new residence to enjoy all the features of a smart home, but at an exceptional price point. Retrofit systems available later this year.
Project Spotlight: Kathmandu Retail Stores - Call System
Kathmandu required a ‘call for assistance’ system for fitting rooms inside their stores
When activated an indicator light was to flash outside the cublicle, and also on the shop floor to alert staff. Once assistance was provided the staff could then re-set the indicator from the shop floor.
Intelligent Environments supplied a Rapix system that met Kathmandu’s requirements. Being plug and play it provided an ‘out of the box’ solution that did not require on-site commissioning. IEL provided wiring diagrams for the electrical contractors to follow.
To date, systems have been provided to new stores in Newmarket, Auckland, and Christchurch. Read more
