The 4th Daughters for Life Gala Dinner, 2016 will honor three exceptional awardees; Malala Yousafzai, Maria Campbell, and the couple Stephen Lewis and Michele Landsberg. The youngest Nobel Peace prize winner, Malala Yousafzai, will be awarded the Courage and Inspiration Luminary Award, for her courageous campaign to fight for education for girls in her homeland Pakistan. Maria Campbell, a writer, playwright, and teacher, will be awarded the Trailblazer Luminary Award, for being one of the first Aboriginal Canadian activists and advocates for Aboriginal rights and the rights of women. For the first time, the Life Achievement Luminary Award will go to a great couple of political and social activist for their outstanding humanitarian achievements: The Stephen Lewis and Michele Landsberg's couple.
Veteran Israeli Shlomi Eldar, the Arab Affairs journalist for Israel’s Channel 10 will be our Guest Speaker, sharing his insights on the power of education and promoting peace through education. Mr. Eldar has fielded the call while live on air on Channel 10 in January 2009 from Dr. Abuelaish just after his three daughters and niece had died after his flat was shelled in Gaza.
The evening will also highlight the work of the Foundation since it began in 2010 and who better to do that than one of the Foundation’s graduates,Loureen Sayej, who will share her experiences.
Moreover, well-known radio personality, Erin Davis, the host of the Morning Show on 98.1 CHFI will MC the gala.
During the evening, there will be music by The Royal Conservatory and an aerial art and circus performance by Angola Murdoch of Lookup Theatre and Holly Treddenick. We will also hold an auction of items including a painting by one of Canada’s leading contemporary artists, Charles Pachter, and during the night, there will be a live painting by Mike Hammer, and much more.
