The hot new Bend word: Spring-ish!

Dear <<First Name>>,

I just returned from a memorable cross-country road trip with my father and his dog.  We drove from New Orleans, Louisiana to Bend together while spending some rare quality time together and enjoying the changing landscapes of the good ol' USA.  I truly enjoyed my father's company and got to eat some really interesting meals in places like Sonora, Texas and Gallup, New Mexico.  My favorite meal of the trip was in Boise, Idaho with a family friend who took us to the parking lot of a car wash place that had a little Mexican food cart where we enjoyed the sunshine while the newly cleaned cars glimmered all around us.  It was an experience to remember.

If there was one take away from the trip for me, it's that our Central Oregon is a pretty special place that I am more than proud to call home.

Now that I'm back in town and in the swing of things, I would love to assist you or your friends with your real estate needs.  Please don't hesitate to call or email me if you have questions or would like some real estate help.

Meet Griff...

What do you do to pay the rent/mortgage?

I am a part owner and therapist at Evoke Therapy Programs.  We offer wilderness therapy programs to teens and young adults to help them find their inner empowerment by living in the outdoors with our trained and experienced staff.

How and when did you find yourself here in Bend?
Long story…  I was working with “at-risk youth” teaching them emotional literacy skills, healthy communication and healthy coping techniques in Utah.  Then, I went back to Eastern Michigan University to complete my degree in Education. After teaching US History in the Detroit Area, I decided the skills I was teaching in the woods were far more valuable than teaching kids the Monroe doctrine. I figured if kids don’t feel connected, safe or empowered, then academic education meant very little to them. I loved working with young men to develop critical thinking skills but I felt stifled working in the public school system. So much of it was about “teaching for the test” and not teaching them skills they would need when life tested them. I moved to Bend in September 2006 to work with Second Nature Cascades - Now Evoke Therapy Programs at Cascades. I worked as a field instructor before going to graduate school at OSU Cascades. I was a clinical assistant, then a therapist and currently am part owner and a therapist at Evoke Therapy Programs.

What do you do in your spare time?

What is spare time again? I have two children that stay with me 4 days per week. My son is 5 and my daughter will be 3 in July. They keep me pretty busy. I have spent some time trying my hand at stand up comedy around town through Bend Comedy.

I like to mountain bike, see live music and I frequent coffee establishments around town. In the summer I like to stand up paddle board, float the river and chase my kids around.

What part of Bend do you live in and why?
I live in the NE. It ended up that way mostly out of happenstance. I like the short distance to my office for sure… I have a great back yard for my dog Maggie and my kids to run amuck.

Where do you eat your favorite meal in Bend and what is it?
I am a big fan of Jackson's Corner… but I have to say my favorite meal is at McKay Cottage – half order of the Smith Rock Benedict and half order of stuffed French toast.

Where do you find your favorite refreshment in Bend and what is it?
I like Strictly Organic, Thump and Jackson's Corner for the drop in refreshment.
Do you use your turn signals in the roundabouts?  (Be honest)

Where can we find you on the interwebs?

If you're interested in checking out some comedy: go to or posts future shows.

An Amazing Letter of Thanks from a Client:

To Whom it may Concern-
I am a recent client of Anna Ruder’s and would like to offer here a testimonial to the effect that working with Anna in the purchase of my property was nothing short of remarkable.  Having owned four houses previously, I have some history with real estate, and this is the first time that the experience of a real estate transaction was truly enriched by my relationship with my agent. Agents I have worked with in the past have been helpful and obstructive, in varying proportions, but without exception the experience has left me with mixed feelings at best.
Not only have I found that I have no regrets or reservations about working with Anna, I am happy to say that I truly enjoyed the time we spent looking at property and that in a sense I could wish it had taken far longer for me to settle on a purchase. I found Anna to be a delightful companion, an insightful assessor not just of a given property but also of its suitability for my purposes, desires, and budget. She was unfailing responsive, patient, and enthusiastic throughout the process.
When it come to the point of negotiating a purchase, Anna was far more helpful than any other agent I’ve worked with to date. She anticipated things I had neglected to think of, gave me as much insight into the nature of the process and the position of the seller as I could have wished for, and (quite possibly most valuable) let me know when my ideas were unlikely to move the negotiations forward. I never got the feeling that she was working in her own interest, or that she had more pressing or important transactions to handle.
At all times I felt that Anna held my interests foremost, and that her attention to them continued throughout and even after the purchase. I would not hesitate to recommend her services, and commend her for her professionalism, attention to detail, and sensitivity to her clients’ needs.
Many thanks,
Laingdon Schmitt
