The Full Monty is in Full Swing

Through June 24, 2018
Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm; Sundays at 2:30 pm
+ select Thursdays at 7:30 pm
Performed on the Mainstage

Out of work, out of money, and almost out of ideas - until these guys have a chance encounter with a male exotic dancer (and the throngs of women who have come out to see him). The guys decide to form Hot Metal to do a one-night-only striptease performance where they guarantee to go "the full monty." But will they really pull it off? Based on the cult hit film of the same name, The Full Monty is a ten-time Tony Award nominee filled with honest affection, engaging melodies and the most highly anticipated closing number of any show. This show is helmed by Jerry Crouch with music direction by Rob Blackwell and choreography by Jacob Walas and stars a cast of 21 community members (including Andy Thompson, Corey Link, Elijah York, Mark Jones, Nick Biggs and Michael Crosa, pictured above).

Opening Weekend audience members raved:

"I honestly can't remember laughing so hard at any live theatre production. This production mixes poignant moments with great comedy. It was simply a wonderful evening." - D. Ater

"We had front seats which were great. The actors put in [their] all - almost a 3 hour production - tons of energy and extremely fun. You really feel you are part of the community of Asheville. Everyone was loving it. Great evening and the ticket prices are so low - you really shouldn't miss this!" - TripAdvisor review

"The depth and emotional power is not what effectively markets this particular show, but is a bonus in emotional drain, effectively creating a rich journey toward the well advertised and highly anticipated 'punch line' (or punch SIGHT), as the case may be." - J. Cavener

7th Year for Costume Drama

Friday, July 6, 2018
7:30 pm

On the Mainstage

Costume Drama is back on the ACT Mainstage! Which means great lighting and runway, and also extremely limited seating (we recommend that you get your tickets soon!) This eclectic evening of inventive fashion has quickly become one of the highlights of the Asheville event calendar and sells out every year! Local designers compete for cash prizes in this Project Runway-esque show, and proceeds from tickets benefit the theatre.

This year, we juried the entries and have 20 top designers competing in 4 categories: Hardware, Light, Paper, and Revisionist History. There are two levels of seating: Preferred, which gets you the best look at the garments as they're debuted onstage and as they travel through the audience, and Standard, which in our theatre is still a great seat!

Listen to This

Thursday, June 28th * 7:30 pm
Performed in 35below

Performed in 35below. There are some stories that are just so good they need to be shared with an assembled audience. Local actor/comedian Tom Chalmers invites you to take part in what is quickly becoming one of Asheville’s most popular series, Listen to This. A storytelling format in the vein of “This American Life,” Listen to This is an evening hosted by Chalmers with stories and songs from some of Asheville’s most interesting writers, performers, and citizens. Each installment features a central theme (past shows have featured stories about everything from mistaken identity to phone calls that changed it all). Real people. Real stories. Real good times.

Be a part of the Southeastern premiere of this show! Director Betsy Puckett seeks 3 women and 4 men for this modern comedy. And gosh, it's a good one! (I personally laughed and laughed out loud reading it until the ending punched me in the solar plexus). All roles at ACT are available to anyone in the community; no previous experience either at ACT or anywhere else is required.

We have scripts available to check out in the Box Office (leave us a $10 deposit which we'll give you back when you return the script). Box Office hours are Tuesday-Friday 10-4.
