Lobby Hero

Through March 24, 2019
Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm; Sundays at 2:30 pm
Performed in 35below

Truth, justice, doing the right thing. Pick 2.

Ellipsis Theatre Company presents Kenneth Lonergan's Lobby Hero for two more weekends in 35below. Directed by Devyn Ray Villarreal, who also stars with this "full-throttle" cast (Daniel Henry, Eugene Jones, Badi Mirheli), this thought-provoking drama dares to explore “Is it ok to lie, and to compromise your moral principles, if it means protecting your family and friends, keeping your job, and avoiding the scorn of your colleagues? Or should the truth be told, no matter what the personal cost?” (DC Metro Theatre Arts)

When a murder investigation brings together a pair of security guards, a cop, and his rookie to the lobby of a Manhattan apartment complex, loyalties and convictions will be pushed to the limit. Sometimes between truth, justice, and doing the right thing, you can only pick two.

Awake and Sing

March 29-31, 2019 * 2:30 pm
Friday and Saturday performances in 35below;
Sunday performance at the Reuter Center on UNCA’s campus

The Autumn Players present  Awake and Sing, Clifford Odets comedy-drama about a Jewish family struggling to realize their “American Dreams” in the 1930’s. If you've never been to a Readers Theatre Showcase show, we highly recommend it! It's such an engaging way to hear the beautiful language on the page!

In Awake and Sing, a Jewish family of three generations lives crammed together in a Bronx apartment during the Great Depression. In language both street-tough and poetic, the characters widely disagree about whether to hold onto their ideals or act in their own best interests as each one struggles to survive. Directed by Arnie Sgan and performed as readers theatre as a part of The Autumn Players’ Readers Theatre Showcase Series.
