NC Premiere on the Mainstage!

Through September 2, 2018
Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm; Sundays at 2:30 pm
Performed on the Mainstage
By Marc Palmieri; Directed by Betsy Puckett

It's the final weekend for The Groundling, and this surprising show has meant a lot of different things to a lot of different people! You might absolutely love this show, like these people did:

We thought The Groundling was amazing …..and gut-wrenching. My compliments to the cast, crew and the theatre! - K. Ballard

My husband and I enjoyed the show. We were not really sure what to expect. It was sad and funny and gave us lots to discuss. We were able to talk about how we have handled the hard times in our lives. Well done, Cast and Crew! Thank you for another meaningful show. - C. Pennell

I almost never give feedback, but I want to applaud the risk you all took to produce The Groundling. Whatever you do in the future, THANK YOU for giving The Groundling a try. I’m so glad I attended. - J. Upjohn

And from the Mountain XpressThe Groundling provides a modern comedic take on Shakespeare. It’s so well-written that when the truth comes out, it’s a profound shift in tone that the actors execute superbly.

And you might not like it at all. That's the risk with this show. This show is funny until it's sad, it feels familiar until it's totally surprising, and it rolls along nicely until it comes to a screeching halt. And it will definitely give you something to talk about all the way home!

The plot: After stumbling upon an outdoor production of a Shakespeare play in Manhattan, Long Island landscaper Bob Malone returns home inspired to write a play about his troubled marriage. He hires two reluctant New York theatre professionals to spend a week at his home and stage the play in his garage, with a cast of colorful locals. A modern comedy with a moving and unexpected ending.

While attending a wedding in Knoxville, Tennessee, five identically clad bridesmaids gather in an upstairs bedroom, each with their own reason to avoid the reception below.
