We are proud of the work of Carina Lopez who has mobilized our volunteers,
given them meaningful work and is on track to provide hundreds and hundreds of masks to the community in its time of need.
At Asheville Community Theatre, we know we are strongest when we approach challenges together - our team, our organization, the Asheville community and Buncombe County. This is an unprecedented time in our history. None of us know what the future looks like. All we can do is seek out reliable information and make sound choices based on data.

I want you to know that the ACT staff and Board have responded to the unknown with creativity and a shared passion for our work. I am thankful to each and everyone of them. The staff has embraced a new way of working and is pivoting to provide relevant programming. The Board has engaged around envisioning the future and protecting ACT for that future.

From our homes, we have reached out to ticket holders, capital campaign donors, children in classes, parents, and the community at large. We have given refunds, taken donations, and had hard conversations about ACT's future. We have imagined new programming and are putting it in place. The community is responding favorably and telling us to keep our faith. Thank you to all of you who have reached out to us.

To keep you in the loop - ACT is responding to this unprecedented situation by:
  • developing fun and free new programming to keep our community connected via social media – with a reach of 10,472 in one week,
  • keeping our education students engaged with weekly programming,
  • designing online and in-person education programs for this summer to be ready for whatever comes our way,
  • being a part of the larger community effort to combat this virus by having ACT volunteers make hundreds of masks for the community,
  • protecting ACT by making sound financial decisions,
  • securing our future by raising funds to support the work we are doing now
  • finding new ways for us to gather virtually and
  • dreaming of the day when we can gather safely
ACT is connected to a wide network of theatres and to nonprofit associations, and we are all working collaboratively to envision the future. We want you to come with us on this journey – please support our work if you are able. Since we don't know when we'll be able to program in person, we'll be reaching out to those of you with tickets and subscriptions to ask that you consider turning those into donations.

We have your best interests at heart and want you to know that the ACT you know and love will return. We’ll will be so happy to see you when we can all be together again. Until then, please stay safe.

With gratitude,
Susan Harper, Executive Director
