Final Weekend for Lobby Hero

FINAL WEEKEND!
Through March 24, 2019
Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm; Sunday at 2:30 pm
Performed in 35below

"The acclaimed 2001 play by Kenneth Lonergan (Manchester by the Sea), which saw a starry Broadway revival last year, is a challenging exercise for both its playwright and its cast: Can they sell an audience on this winding tale of betrayed confidences set entirely in a New York apartment building lobby in the wee hours of several consecutive mornings?

The answer in this case is yes, as Ellipsis’ hard-working cast is at full throttle from start to finish." - Bruce Steele, Asheville Stages

Ellipsis Theatre Company presents Kenneth Lonergan's Lobby Hero for one more weekend in 35below. Directed by Devyn Ray Villarreal, who also stars with Daniel Henry, Eugene Jones, and Badi Mirheli, this thought-provoking drama reminds us that sometimes between truth, justice, and doing the right thing, you can only pick two.

Alice in Wonderland

April 5-21, 2019
Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm; Sundays at 2:30 pm

Performed on the Mainstage

A journey into a world of complete illusion! All the familiar characters from Lewis Carroll’s famed Victorian fairy tale are here: Alice, The Mad Hatter, The White Rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, The Red Queen, The Cheshire Cat … and many more! Produced and reviewed on Broadway, this is considered the most successful dramatic version of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.

We've received some really curious questions about this show, and we want to assure everyone that this is a G-rated version that is totally fine for all ages. That said, the show is a full-length play with an intermission, so keep that in mind if you've got little littles who may not be ready to devote that much time to sitting in the dark! (our Saturdays at ACT series is PERFECT for the littlest theatre goers!)

The Autumn Players present  Awake and Sing, Clifford Odets comedy-drama about a Jewish family struggling to realize their “American Dreams” in the 1930’s. If you've never been to a Readers Theatre Showcase show, we highly recommend it! It's such an engaging way to hear the beautiful language on the page!

In Awake and Sing, a Jewish family of three generations lives crammed together in a Bronx apartment during the Great Depression. In language both street-tough and poetic, the characters widely disagree about whether to hold onto their ideals or act in their own best interests as each one struggles to survive. Directed by Arnie Sgan and performed as readers theatre as a part of The Autumn Players’ Readers Theatre Showcase Series.

All tickets are only $7.00! Treat yourself!

March's Listen to This

Thursday, March 28 * 7:30 pm
Performed in 35below

March usually comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. But this year, March goes out in grand style with the latest installment of Listen to This, stories and more on stage, with the theme: "The Grand Entrance: True Tales of Eventful Arrivals." You only get one chance to make a first impression so why not make a splash. Then again, we don't always intend to make a major production of our initial appearance. Featuring stories by Maryedith Burrell, Murphy Funkhouser Capps, Sarah Spooner, Bill Wilson, and Waylon Wood, plus songs by Ben Phan.

A storytelling format in the vein of “This American Life,” Listen to This is hosted by Tom Chalmers. Shows do tend to sell out, so get tickets early to this uniquely Asheville event!

Upcoming Auditions

April 8-9, 2019 * 6 pm to 9 pm

For 10 hard-luck Texans, a new lease on life is so close they can touch it. Under a scorching sun for days on end, armed with nothing but hope, humor and ambition, they’ll fight to keep at least one hand on a brand new “hardbody” Nissan truck in order to win it. In the hilarious, hard-fought contest, only one winner can drive away with the American dream. Based on a true story (and 1997 documentary of the same name)!

We're looking for 9 men and 6 women for the cast of Hands on a Hardbody. We've posted character descriptions and audition material on our website. Auditions are open to all in the community; no previous experience required.
