#GivingTuesday is TODAY!

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.

On this day, we ask you to look around your community, give thanks, and if you can, give support.

If you are interested in supporting Centro at this time, please consider directing your gift to our BECAS (Scholarships) PROGRAM -- every dollar donated to this program on #GivingTuesday will go directly to our scholars to help cover the cost of higher education.

CONGRATULATIONS JEIMY HERNANDEZ SANDOVAL, 2018 CAMINOS FINANCE PROGRAM GRADUATE

Photo of Jeimy Hernandez SandovalJeimy Hernández Sandoval is from Mexico City. She studied International Business and came to the United States 14 years ago to study English. She stayed in the United States and after many jobs that didn't suit her expectations. Jeimy recently participated in the Camino Finance Program with Centro.

The Caminos Finance Program is a 10-week training offered in partnership with Madison College, the United Way HIRE Initiative, and employer partners (Dane County Credit Union, Summit Credit Union, UW Credit Union).  Training participants develop skills in areas that allow them to grow in their employment and start to connect with employers in the Dane County area.

"I heard Centro was beginning a program for people that want to work in finance -- Caminos Finance. I enrolled in the program and I really loved it. When I finished the program, I was super excited to continue learning."

During the last part of the program, partner credit unions interviewed program participants and Jeimy had the opportunity to meet with Tara from Summit Credit Union who encouraged her to apply for a job at Summit Credit Union.

She applied, and was hired. After one year, she was promoted to Senior Member Service Teller and 18 months after that, she became a Universal Banker.

Congratulations Jeimy!

WELCOMING NICOLE VERHAGEN TO CENTRO'S FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES TEAM

My name is Nicole Verhagen and I am a General Support and Community Engagement Specialist at Centro. I help individuals and families in Dane County navigate the many social systems that exist and to find resources for their different needs.

In Centro I’ve found a truly welcoming community, where I can feel represented and be reminded that our individual and collective voices count, and where it is very easy to find a friendly face and a warm hand when you need it. Working at Centro has allowed me to give back to our community, transferring my skills and experiences to ensure that any person or family that comes to us receives the tools and resources to feel supported and empowered.

NEW PROGRAM FOCUSES ON THE TRANSITION FROM HIGH SCHOOL TO COLLEGE FOR LATINX STUDENTS

Avanzando Through College, launched this Fall with funding from UnidosUS, is a new program focused on providing valuable support to Latinx students as they transition from high school to college. The program is coordinated by Alondra Quechol. Centro College Transition Coordinator. Alondra is a former participant in Centro's youth programs, a Centro Becas Scholarship Program recipient, and the co-founder of [Re]Generacion. She brings with her the unique wisdom and experience she has navigating the system as a student herself. Alondra is a recent graduate from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee.
