Fourth of July Open House

Monday, July 4 at Calvary UMC

Our doors will be open again this year on July 4th so that Calvary friends and members may welcome fireworks-goers and Allegheny West neighbors to come by for some refreshments and to visit the Tiffany sanctuary.

To make this year's open house a success like prior years, we are looking for donations of the following: individual bottles of water, and single-serving bags of chips/snacks. Please drop off donations at church during office hours which are 9:00am-3:00pm, Monday-Thursday. We are also accepting monetary donations then we will purchase any items that are still needed.

Not only are your donations appreciated, but we hope to see you at the church to help out and spend some time on the Fourth of July with your friends at Calvary. The Open House begins at 6:00pm, but we would ask you be here by 5:00pm for setup. Please see Mark Rehn or Beth Ober to let them know if you plan on joining us. We look forward to seeing you there!

Candle-Lighting Ceremony Honoring Victims of Orlando Shooting

Calvary honored the victims of the horrific shooting in Orlando during a candle-lighting ceremony on Sunday, June 19th during morning worship. Church members gave readings about hatred, gun violence, acceptance and love while 49 candles were lit.

The Wesley Bell Ringers

The Wesley Bell Ringers performed at Calvary on the night of Sunday, June 19th. There were 17 ringers between the ages of 14 thru 19. The concert was enchanting. It was such a splendid way to kick off our own Bell Program here at Calvary. Everyone there enjoyed a most delightful concert and it is hoped that they return again next year!

Thank you to everyone that graciously opened your home and hosted members of The Wesley Bell Ringers. Thank you so much for taking the time and energy to host the students and chaperones which ultimately made the concert possible.

No pictures were taken during the performance, but here are some pictures of the bells that they played during the concert.

December 2016

6th Annual Handel's Messiah Sing-Along Concert
Saturday, December 3 at 4:00pm

All are invited to raise their voices together in a classic holiday choral work during the 6th Annual Handel's Messiah Sing-Along at Calvary United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 3rd at 4:00pm.

The performance is a community "sing-along," with professional soloists, an orchestra, and an amateur chorus. The annual concert started five years ago out of a desire to provide the Northside community with a sing-along rendition of Handel's most beloved work, "Messiah". The sing-along was founded on a principle of openness - everyone is welcome in the choir, and everyone is welcome in the performance. As an audience member you are not required to sing, but you are certainly invited to sing.

This holiday tradition now brings up to 400 people to Calvary UMC to sing selected choruses including the famous "Hallelujah Chorus". Audience members are asked to bring 1-pound non-perishable food items for the pantry at Northside Common Ministries. In addition, we ask you to bring reusable tote-bags (you know, those give-away totes we all collect for grocery shopping, etc.) These are needed for those who use the pantry and are, of course, better for God's earth than plastic bags. Cookie reception with the artists follows in the Victorian Chapel. It's a fantastic way to kick off the holiday season, and we invite everyone to join and sing for the joy of it!
