SEPTEMBER COFFEE NEWS

Order coffee before Sept 9 ~ for FRESHEST Delivery

Starting a New Season

Our family is in the midst of several new beginnings that we share below. But first a quick reminder  to let us know if you'd like to get coffee this month.

If you live in Minneapolis or St. Paul and some suburbs, we can add you to our free delivery route next Friday, September 11th. If you don't live in these areas, we're happy to mail coffee to you. Just place your coffee order before Wednesday, September 9th through our website at vfamilycoffee.com. Our next free delivery day is planned for Friday, October 9th.

Starting a New Season

The arrival of September always feels like the start of something new. This year that is especially so for our household. After enjoying a full house the past 3 years, we are adapting to something a bit quieter. As we reported last month, our oldest son Sam and his wife Maren are happily getting settled into their new house. A few weeks ago, we also took our youngest, Alicia off to college for the first time. Thankfully, she is not far away, just down the road at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN (Cathy's Alma Mater). Our middle son Jake, while still living at home, has just started a new job with a small St. Paul immigration law office. He also just adopted a sweet puppy, named Kiwi whose pure playful joy we are enjoying immensely. All in all, we are enjoying this new slightly quieter season of our lives.

New Delivery Drivers
Our long-time family friend Qadre who has been driving for us for the past year is off for his own college adventure at St. Cloud State. As a result, September also brings a few shifts to our delivery routes. Danielle will be taking over Alicia's route and our son Jake will be doing his friend Qadre's route. Our driver Violet is also starting classes at the University Minnesota but thankfully will continue to do deliveries for us. With all these changes, we will likely be needing new drivers at some point in the near future. If you know any high school juniors with their driver's license who would be interested in a 2-3 hour/month coffee delivery job, please let us know!

Muchisimas Gracias!

Thanks to all of you who offered tips this past month for our coffee farmers in response to our August newsletter. We are humbled by the generosity of so many that has already accumulated over $400. This extra bonus will be especially helpful to our family members in the coming months as the coffee harvest gets underway once again. If you have (or start) an ongoing coffee subscription with us and want to add a tip, you still can by emailing us at coffee@vfamilycoffee.com. Any new one time orders through our website will see the "Coffee Farmer Tip" option in the shopping cart before checking out.

Fall Flavor: Maple Pecan Streusel

It never fails, September arrives and with it cooler weather. Just as reliable is the arrival of our 2020 Fall flavor.

Maple Pecan Streusel: A scrumptious sweet and sugary blend of maple and pecan capped off with a background of homemade streusel (inspired by this yummy recipe.)

Available in 8 oz bags whole bean and ground during September and October.

Summer Flavor: Bonfire

Even as we slip into fall, we still have a few bags of our summer flavor for you to enjoy.

Bonfire: Sweet, creamy icing swirled in spicy cinnamon and fresh bread...an amazing aroma wafting from your cup...very reminiscent of grandma's Hot Fresh Buns...perfect for lazy mornings, and relaxed evenings spent with family and friends gathered around a campfire.

Available in 8 oz bags whole bean and ground and a limited quantity of Decaf.

VFC Coffee Fundraisers

This year "Back to School" is unlike any other. However, if your school (or other community organization) still needs to raise funds, our coffee fundraiser is now available in a "social distance friendly" format through an updated fundraiser page on our website. To get your group added to our fundraiser list or for more information about how a fundraiser might work for your group contact us at coffee@vfamilycoffee.com.

VFC on Co-op Shelves

We're excited that Velasquez Family Coffee is now on the shelves at City Center Market in Cambridge, MN. How did that happen you might ask? Turns out the Grocery Manager is a former customer of ours and had good memories of drinking our Maximo's French Roast. Our kids also attended Adams Spanish Immersion Elementary School together many years back. So many good connections!

Closing Words

"As we move forward, we can lean on this: that although it tends to happen slowly and only with great, conscious effort, people and cultures do change in response to the changing realities and needs of their times. If we are to sort ourselves out and make good lives for ourselves in this ever-more-multicultural landscape, we've got to start by talking less and listening more. We can listen -- really listen -- to one another's stories and learn from them. Collectively, we can learn to tell a story that includes all our stories...fashion a mosaic-like group portrait from those stories that we all can agree truly does resemble people like us."
-David Lawrence Grant, "People Like Us " essay in
A Good Time for the Truth
