Now Hear This!

 Commodore's Corner

Well, winter has really arrived and we are now paying for all the mild weather we had in December. Hopefully the power will stay on and I will get this finished, as well as all the other things I have been putting off until we had a snow day!

Cheers to the members of your Board of Directors who gave up their Sunday two weeks ago to hold a planning and brainstorming meeting to prioritize the club’s needs for the coming year. It gave us an opportunity to exchange and discuss a lot of ideas, and we came up with a number of items that we want to address, as well as clubhouse areas that needed immediate attention.

Thanks to Heather Ransom, John Carey and Mike Reeve, the section of the kitchen floor that had badly deteriorated over the years has already been replaced down to the bones. Thank you Heather, John and Mike! The next project to be completed will be the addition of emergency lighting throughout the clubhouse. Again, big thanks to Heather Ransom, John Carey and Gary Di Vito for taking on this task. Shortly, a schematic will be posted on the website and in the clubhouse detailing the location of emergency equipment and exits.

Chair Connie Ranney, Technology Committee has a list of projects she and her team want to address. Number one is the creation of a new website which will help us better promote the club and enable greater interaction with you, our members. We are hoping the new site will be up and running before summer.

Spiffing up the interior of the clubhouse is ongoing. A huge thank you to Rich Faulkner for the fantastic job he has done to display the burgees, which have been collected over the years. It looks fabulous! Another item crossed off our “wish list”.
The bulletin board in the foyer has been removed and replaced by a new board, which will be relocated to the rear hallway. We have installed photo frames in the foyer and invite our members to fill them with photos of their boats. Maybe we will call it the RHYC Wall of Fame!
Stay tuned, there are lots of other projects in the works that we hope will enhance our members’ and guests’ experiences at the club. Ideas and volunteers are needed to make all of this happen so contact us if you would like to get involved.

The Rock Hall Yacht Club Technology Committee is working on a new, mobile friendly, modern website which should be launched before summer. Please continue to use our existing site in the interim. Our current site was put in place in 2008, so it's time for an overhaul!

We need your favorite 3 high resolution photographs of the club - grounds, views, regattas, events, people having fun at RHYC.

Your photographs can be emailed to or email us and let us know how to access them. We'd also like your permission to use them on our site without attribution.  Thanks!

2016 Membership Drive is Under Way!

The foundation of the Rock Hall Yacht Club (RHYC) is its membership!  From young families to retired couples, to singles, RHYC has a diverse group of individuals that comprise its family.  Without this group, none of the exciting activities, friendship and “memory-making” would occur.

As you know,  when you become a member of the RHYC you are opening the door to many fun experiences and friendships that will last a lifetime as well as many benefits and programs designed to add value to your membership.

Club Racing
You don't sail? Sail, but don't race? Enjoy being out on the water? Then you can have it all as a part of club racing. It’s low-key, fun, and simple. Races are held right on Lankford Bay just off the club beach and docks with the first warning gun at noon. Every race needs a committee boat or two, to set marks and keep score. The sailors rotate the duty, but always need an extra hand or two. Boats are available to borrow from the sailing school with advanced notice. We hope to see all the "old" club racers out there as well as a bunch of new sailors and volunteers.
