Swimming in Mood

Turn on your desire {without the porn}

This week, I wrote an essay for 1,000 Strands about 50 Shades of Grey. If you haven't seen it, you can go read it now and see where we are going in this Passional.

See, that essay really isn't about Fifty Shades of Grey. It's really about getting in the mood.  If we want to have great sex, we need to give ourselves space to prepare. For most of us, being turned on is less like a light switch and more like dynamite with a long fuze.

Have you ever felt like sex would be a great idea, if only you wanted to do it?

You love your husband. You want to show him you love him. You'd happily do some something else he likes, but sex just sounds so... exhausting? unappealing? daunting?

Sex is complicated. If you are doing it right, it really cannot be phoned in {well, you can literally phone it in, but that's a different Passional}.  Sex requires your full participation, self-acceptance, a good attitude, and intense attention to someone else. Who wants to do that? That sounds like too much work. Can we eat pizza and watch Parks and Rec instead? We'll cuddle. Can cuddling count? No one has to see my belly button when we cuddle, bonus!

In Love and Making It we move forward into the hard parts.  This is a hard part and you can do hard things. It takes practice, just like any other physical thing you've ever learned: riding a bike, yoga, swimming... we practice and it becomes more natural to enter into great sex.  Sex is good for you and for your relationship. It is worth learning to do with passion and expertise so you can enjoy it.

It's time to practice moving from TV-watching and cuddling to passionate, unifying, looking-forward-to-more-of-THIS sex.
STEP ONE:
Set time aside to prepare.

Even if it is just 5 minutes. Ask your partner for the space you need. You can ask for this. You need time to remember you have a good body, a beautiful mind and heart, and a soul worth loving.

Sex is a lot like working out. You need a proper warm up before the real action starts. I do not mean "foreplay" as a warm up. Foreplay asks for a response and begins the sharing of electricity. Preparation time is just for YOU to get ready to share yourself and have someone share themselves with you.

So, once you set time aside, you have to actually prepare.
STEP TWO:
Try different preparations.
Create a library of music, images, and items with great texture.
The goal here is not to make you lustful or horny.
The goal here is to relax, connect with your body, and feel GOOD.

Look at a great art. Listen to a song. Put on special underwear. {You need special underwear}

You want to focus on gratitude, acceptance, and embodiment.

BELOW ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITES.
As you look for your own, start to journal what "gets" you. What hits your gut and reminds you that you are human and beautiful? What makes you want to dance? What makes you think about moving your body against his? What makes you crave a kiss or a hand in your hair?

LOVE & MAKING IT - SWIMMING IN MOOD
It does not have to be anything shocking or risque.

Let your eyes follow the lines and curves. Think about your own lines and curves.

Listen to a great song and move your hips. Let your arms float up above your head and slowly feel your curves stretch and move to the music.
