See you this weekend for family fun and fellowship at Motofest!
We look forward to seeing you this weekend (2nd-3rd June) in the city centre from 10am-5pm for Motofest - a weekend jam packed with cars, music and family fun all around the Ring Road. The full general programme is available for download here. HOPE Coventry's presence with music, crafts, face painting, and our project leaders to chat to will be mostly based in Greyfriars Green, CV1 1DY at the HOPE Arena, though opportunities for prayer will be near Holy Trinity Church/Primark. We will also have our open-air United Worship Gathering in the HOPE Arena on Sunday 3rd June from 10.30am-11.30am, where hundreds of Christians will gather to worship together. Why not come along and represent your church?

There are still opportunities to give an hour or two of your time over the weekend as a volunteer for practical or children's work support - if you would like to do this, please email angus.ormes@hopecoventry.org.uk.

Spark in the Park is back - 6th-8th August

Spark in the Park is a huge church-led opportunity for children of Coventry to come together in War Memorial Park to enjoy bouncy castles, sports, crafts, music, stories, face painting, a disco, and more - all for free! However, helpers over the age of 14 are needed to facilitate this time of outreach and laughter. You can volunteer for craft, sports, inflatables, face painting, tuck shop, car parking, pastoral care, overnight security, or general help. Times of volunteering vary, with main daytimes 11.30am-5.00pm, but other times are also available; even help for one day is appreciated. For more details, download the application form, or email coventryspark@gmail.com.

The World Cup is on its way - are you ready?

Scripture Union have launched a free World Cup 2018 pack of resources called Jumper for Goalposts which can be used in churches, schools and community settings to engage children who are very sporty as well as those who aren't. There are three core resources available – one around screening a World Cup match, one around a fun family sports day, and one around a free play football session, with follow up resources too. You can read more or download the ideas, templates and videos here.

Winter Night Shelter: the importance of community

A few years ago, I heard a good Christian friend say that “we get saved in bunches”. I’ve come to realise more and more that God does save us individually, but our positive life examples impact others and may be exactly what a friend needs to encounter God and change.

In April, one of our guests at the Night Shelter seemed to have sorted himself out at last: he had got a job and had found nice accommodation with our help. But he lacked a community and friends to support him, and within a week he was depressed, had lost his job and messed up with his accommodation. Luckily, we were able to support him and he has now gone into a rehabilitation programme in a community, where he is thriving. Sometimes, a community is just what we need to get up again.

The power of invitation
National Weekend of Invitation
15th-17th June

Beyond the walls of our churches are almost 3 million people who are open to being invited to church. The video above by the founder of Christians Against Poverty explains just how life-changing that invite can be. Why not look at the resources and event ideas available to extend an invite to church to someone you know on that national weekend?
Heritage Open Days
6th-9th and 13th-16th September

Heritage Open Days are a time when buildings are opened up to the public for free over a few days in September. Each year, thousands of visitors come and see different venues across Coventry (including churches), which are advertised in the council's free leaflet. Why not harness that visiting power and register your church for visitors?

Your church doesn’t need to be big or fancy or boast of famous connections, but should be free of charge, offer something special like volunteers to chat to, and provide some sort of tour or information leaflet or exhibition. For more ideas and to register, see the website.

Coventry is 100!
Our Diocese turns 100

Diocesan centenary celebrations have been happening all year so far, but the video above shows some of the highlights, including the Archbishop of Canterbury telling us that "One of the inspiring things [on his visit] has been seeing the way that the Diocese of Coventry is drawing together all aspects of God's ministry and has this great strength which comes from unity." One other aspect of celebration has involved making the Cathedral free of charge to enter; see their website for more details.
Make Lunch for hungry children in Coventry

At school more than 1.2 million pupils who may otherwise go without food are eligible to receive free school meals. Outside of term time though, free school meals are not available and many pupils are left without regular hot food. Make Lunch is a national church project where churches come together in school holidays to offer free lunch clubs for those in need. The Make Lunch project in Tile Hill (hosted at Limbrick Wood Baptist Church) needs a volunteer coordinator, a kitchen coordinator, daily session leaders, kitchen staff, reception admin, children’s games/craft coordinator, volunteers willing to play with children, and those willing to chat to parents. If you might be willing to help on any of the following days, please email makelunchtilehill@gmail.com: July 30th and 31st, August 2nd, 6th, 7th, 9th, 13th, 14th, 16th, 20th, 21st, 23rd, 27th, 28th, 30th.
